Misfire under full boost and cold first start idle sounds cammed ??

Hey all, just wondering if anyone has got any advice on an engine issue I currently have, so from a cold start where the revs are a bit higher it almost sounds CAMMED! but as soon as the idle slows down to normal that goes away with an occasional misfire (can see the engine move) and when driving it is perfectly fine till you hit full boost and then it starts misfiring really badly, just put diffrent coils and cleaned and gapped spark plugs to 0.723.
Car is a 2004 seat Ibiza cupra 1.8t

I have similar issue, my car has cold misfiring but also when engine is at operating temp on idle it will still have misfires but the idle is slightly raised for Unknown reasons .
does your misfires at full boost feel like a violent jerk ? Mine feels like someone has pressed the brake with their other foot my car also under moderate boost/acceleration there is a judder which is still the misfire but less aggressive because of the less throttle input.
do you also have these symptoms?

my car is a Ibiza 6J 1.2tsi (105) stage 1 to 135hp.

Jamie .

Yeah mines pretty much the same as your describing, have you figured it out as I’m still struggling and I’ve now spent to much money trying to figure it out 🤦‍♂️😠

I haven’t a clue what issue is , my next option I could suggest which will be my next step is get someone with vcds (VAG com ) and scan for misfires while driving as it will indicate which cylinder and how many misfires mine is becoming more frequent also . Let me know if this helps and what mechanic says cause of issue is when you get round to doing it

I’ve attempted to read codes via a Bluetooth reader and it came back with a misfire on cylinder 1 but it just doesn’t seem right that a simple misfire could cause this aggressive cammed sound on cold start and the aggressive juddering under full boost.
With 280bhp it’s terrifying 😂😂

I tried code reading with a Carly code reader but nothing, no codes , I’d start with trying to get rid of that cylinder 1 misfire as that more than likely is the issue I know mine is for definite misfire but don’t know what the hell is causing it as like I said previously I changed plugs leads and coil I even put a catch can in to catch crank vent vapour oil and condensation (which it has caught plenty of condensation barely any oil though ) can you attach a video of what it sounds like on cold start .
Edit
Also the reason I installed the catch can was to see if oil vapour front crank vent was fouling plugs as it was coming out of my forge bov

I will do when it next does it, it doesn’t always do it but I’ll definitely record it next time, fingers crossed we will be able to come to a solution for both of us haha but yeah going to have a look at cylinder 1 and see what my problem may be hopefully just a coil and see what happens from there.
Oli.

Or if not then I’m just going to get my air bag and traction light sorted them get a dodgy mot then give it to a garage to have fun with. But first I’m going to try a diy smoke test to see if I’ve got any leaks in any hoses or what not you never know😂

Ah right :)

Live data is what you need, requested boost vs actual boost, and requested fueling vs actual fueling. Could be N75, but equally it could be a fueling issue or something else. If you only have access to basic data then short term fuel trim may show it going lean etc.

Ah ok I’ll have to get it going again and have a look, I can get some live data but I don’t know quite what but I’ll definitely have a look at all that, thank you 🙏

Hey buddy, I’ve got a video of my weird cold start finally but ignore the steam coming from it, hadn’t been started in 1.5 weeks and it was 1.5 degrees here 😂https://youtube.com/shorts/yxe09YtAqCY?feature=share

Haha yeah I had a look at it mate sounds like multiple misfires it does indeed sound cammed mine doesn’t sound as bad as that though, they useless these Bluetooth code readers for VAG cars such a pain how VCDS is needed I was debating getting VCDS but nearly sh*t a brick when I saw the price, just depends weather it’s worth it rather than paying a VAG specialist how ever much just to scan for faults and to then possibly find out it’s something either minor or something worse , garages charge an arm and a leg these days, 95% of the time I just do my own work on the car but when it comes to diagnostics it’s pointless without VCDS.

hope you get it sorted mate 👍

Sounds like a really bad misfire. Could be caused by a lots of things, impossible to say without looking at the car itself or data though. As jamie says VCDS is worth the investment if you plan on keeping the car for any length of time. Very hard to troubleshoot these engines without it

Just looked on darkside developments and for a home user to have access to scan 3 different VIN’s it’s £312 incl VAT , for a enthusiast to scan 10 VIN’s it’s £396 incl VAT , if you were only needing it for this car I’d just get the home user one (if it’s worth it in you’re circumstances) and then sell the cable minus the value of one vin .

I’ve downloaded the vcds software and have ordered a shitty cheap Chinese lead in the hope that it will work if not then to a garage it goes haha, I’ll update about this lead when it arrives 👍
