MK2 Leon - Very poor in snow

I don't think it's fair to blame the car if you're not using the right tyres for the conditions.

Sorry let me explain, taking tyres out of the equation (I've never fitted winter tyres to any of my cars) the Leon is by far the worst. My gf's 1998 golf (also on summer tyres) put the Leon to shame over the weekend.

I know there are a lot of other factors to consder (tyre size, tread depth, torque, weight etc) by my opinion is the Leon doesn't cope at all well with these conditions.

Managed to get a full set of 18" RS4 alloys and Vredesteins wintrac xtremes at a little over cost.......:funk:........so the thaw begins now guys.......

Regarding how good or bad the Leon is in snow, managed OK here in the midlands about 2 weeks ago, when we had over 12 inches over 24 hours - didn't appear any worse or better than any other hatchback struggling getting about to be honest.

I just drove to the conditions, got the usual tw@t in a van or 4x4 thinking the laws of physics don't apply to them, but all in all no real dramas here.

Can't say I've had any particular problems with the snow, no worse than previous cars. The Mk2 Leon has the same basic floor pan and running gear as the Golf, Octavia and A3, so I can't imagine it can be much different to them?

Oh it must be the car

In the TT and the RS4 im playing with currently going forwards is no problem, but bends etc and these summer tyres really do struggle.

My van and the GFs corsa are both better at cornering in the snow as neither are fitted with low profile, super duper ultimate performance summer tyres like the TTRS and the RS4.

I paid around £110 a corner - what did you pay?

I that about the normal price before they all rocketed up?

I paid about £130 a corner. Which in the current market seems really good....if they actually turn up.

Contis and Goodyears are over £200 now!! :wtf: There were Coopers on ebay for £600 plus postage for 4.

130 a corner is 225/40/18 for the Vreds is very good in the current climate (although helped by the £/Euro rate).

took my car out over weekend, and really need winter tyres, but because I got 19 it's quite expensive ;/ so I think I will keep it locked up till snow melts...

A car might not be the best in the snow or on ice, but IMO 90% of the time it's mainly the driver who just can't drive in such conditions.

Most British people either stay in a town or city and have little experience of driving in the snow or due to the winters we are having just havent had the oppertunity or experience.
This is not covered in the standard training either and not intunitive to towns folk
