In short, SEAT could of had a stonking modern true 'hot hatch' on their hands, but have opted for conservative.

It is nice, dont get me wrong, but it could have been more, like the picture posted by
Gaffer1986 on page 2.

Put it this way, If SEAT put a RWD or 4WD 300bhp 3 door Leon Cupra on sale, suitable styled, they'd be a queue of people round the block wanting one!

bang on mate, the cars would sell like hot cakes.i was at the ring last yr and in one line was the ford boys and there must of been atleast 8 of them parked up in a line in the car park it looked [B)]
ford are going abit backwards just to please the eco people......i mean seroiusly what a shame the way cars are going.200bhp in the serria cosworth and race versions were knocking out 500bhp.can we honestley say in 20 or so yrs time wow remember that eco boost ford rs or the like:blink:...........as we do with the 70/80/90s cars there is a few nice looking modern cars but not many:whistle:

If you compare the ratio of "remembered cars from the 70/80/90s" to the "number of cars produced in the 70/80/90s"... Only the good stuff is remembered. I doubt there are many people who have any fond memories of the MG Montego, for example... Only the best of the best will be remembered in 20 years time.

Seat (or Ford) could create a new classic with the next Leon Cupra (Focus RS). Or they might not. If you ask me I'd put my money on Ford tbh. The Leon Cupra is always going to be hamstrung by having to be "not quite as good as a Golf R or RS3", so it's not going to be a forever remembered classic.

This is the thing,

The RS badge has a following, on motorsport heritage and are collectible and sought after.

This is why there was for sale a low mileage Moonstone blue Sierra RS 500 Cosworth, in mint condition (and i do mean MINT) for.......£65,000 yes, that right £65K for a 20+ year old Sierra cozzie, ok it's an RS500, but all the same an old car for a lot of money

The owner had turned down an offer of £62K!!

see page 1:

The CUPRA badge should be for SEAT what the RS badge is for Ford

Can you imagine if SEAT took the latest 3 door Leon and entered the WRC with it, turning it into a powerful flame spitting monster & winning the WRC champoinship....it'd give the marque 'kudos' and if produced in limited numbers as a special edition, we could be looking at a very rare, valuble SEAT Leon in 20 years time...........

Thats another one mate, if you want a mustang its because you want the v8, not a 2.0L ecoboost lol.

Some things are sacred other wise things become diluted and sticking an RS badge on a 5 door just dilutes the marque imho of course. Otherwise it just becomes another notch on the trim level rating

Anyhow, lets hope theres a stonking cupra version of the 3 door leon

Didn't they put a RS Cosworth badge on the old 4 wheel drive 4 door Sierra Sapphire?

They certainly put it up n the rwd Sierra as my old man had several.
I have fond memories of the Montego as my dad's estate was the first car I ever did a handbrake turn in.

yep, there was a 2wd & 4wd version, the Saph is a proper 4 door saloon tho.

I was talking about a 5 door hatchback all the previous hatchback RS's have been 3 doors
:)

Personally, I believe 5 door hatches look more sporty than 4 door saloons. To be fair, I've never seen the point saloon cars and I definitely can't understand why they make saloon version of the focus, astra, clio, etc - they just look awkward.

How chic

Other markets hate hatchbacks. North America and China for example both go for saloon ("sedan") body shapes over the hatchbacks, but I think the hatch is primarily a European/ Japanese thing. Hence the forthcoming Audi A3 saloon.

I agree, they look rubbish. Almost all look as though the boot was added as an afterthought. Which I suspect is exactly what happened.

On the other hand, look at the BMW 3/5 Series Hatchbacks (they want you to call them "GT"). Those are absolute abominations and I can't imagine why anyone would buy one over the saloon versions...

that dose get me when ppl rate the golf gti mk5 or what ever a better car than the leon:confused:
in top gear a while ago they had the megan 225,honda civic 2tlr,leon cupra r mk1,astra vxr and the golf gti,i think that was all of them.but as normal that wacked them on the track the leon was the 2nd quickest i THINK.....or 3rd it was quicker than the gti but still as a all rounder looks ect they said it was a better car to have.......there point being though which was fastest aboud the track but the golf got a better mention  the GTI died after the mk2 imo...

Orly ?

Megane RS, Clio RS....selling well and getting rave reviews.....

but im on about old models compared to the new they are very behind imo.
you had the 5 renault made i know mostley on these models but the others are simmilar.
stock the came with 120bhp and the best i have seen outta these engines is 215 bhp thats massive potentional as compared to the N/A clio, ive come against them before the 197 and you can give it a good run for its money.models they did well in there hey days

renault 21 turbo,
5 turbo,11 turbo
GTA v6 turbo (the specked up version the put in the lotous 98t f1 car)
25 v6 turbo,
renault 5 turbo 1 and 2
clio willams
if they turbod the clio 172/182 and even the 197 or use the 225 engine there is massive power gains but they dont use it:confused:

if renault can made this power im sure seat can do more to the 20v turbo engine  but dont :(

Saw one in flesh Saturday just gone. Really nice car and the interior is in another league compared to the mk2. It will be a winner for sure.

You wouldn't have an ECOBoost but you would have a V8 Diesel?...To me they are both pointless, but that's just my opinon. Both go against the Mustang philosophy lol

Both aren't what the Mustang's about, but the V8 diesel is closer than a 4 pot turbo petrol.

V8s are cool, and diesel V8s aren't excluded from that ;)

I thought we were supposed to be getting the SC launch at Geneva with pricing and spec, been a few days and no mention if it?
