Hi everyone,
I have had my Cupra since October last year and with the summer coming round soon and my planned Nurburgring trip, I am wanting to get the car ready with a bit more performance.
I have lots in store for it, one thing being the exhaust.
First of all, I do not want the Milltek, I waited for them to develop and release it and I am fairly disappointed. I do not want the sport cat and I'm not too keen on the tailpipes. Also the price for the turbo back is a bit too much in my opinion.
So, I have the following questions to ask about a custom system I am planning on getting made up;

1) The milltek site says the turbo back system must be accompanied by the stage 2 remap. I am planning on having the remap done but obviously the exhaust and other mods will be put on first. With having a full turbo back system and decat, is this going to cause problems with running and the ecu etc?

2) How many lambda sensors does the car have? and where are they? (Forgive my laziness, I haven't been out to look at the car for a while).

3) Are there going to be warning lights when removing the cat etc?

4) Where is the cat on the Cupra's? Is there just one or is there a pre cat?

5) The milltek site shows their exhaust is 2.76". Do you not think this is a little bit big? Would 2.5" not be better suited? Any info and why would be appreciated.

Other plans for the car to accompany the exhaust are;
Panel filter.
Front mount intercooler.
BOV-already done.
Live map-I know the Revo maps are proven but ideally I would like them or another tuner to map the car on a dyno so that all mods are taken into consideration so the map is spot on.

Any answers to my questions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

i'm afraid i can't help much with that as im pretty clueless :( but just incase you didnt know you'll need insurance to go on the ring as its a pulic toll road in german not a race track and you find that most insurance companys don't cover it in their policys and if you go on it with no insurance the german coppers will throw the book at you....

...nice plans for the car tho im guessing you already have the racing brakes :p

I'll be sorting out insurance for the ring trip dont worry lol.

I didnt get the AP brakes from the factory no, I will be looking to price them up and fit them at home. I have seen a guy on here seems to know how to order them at a good price etc.

Save yourself some money mate and go with the Milltek/REVO offer from Awesome GTI in Manchester. Gonna save yourself about 600 to 800 quid with their introductory offer. I am booked in on 02/04/2011 to have all the work done and getting a twintercooler and induction kit fitted same time. Oh wait, you only get REVO free if you have stage 1............. Never mind hehehehehehe Was not thinking there for a minute. Either way, it is gonna cost you to custom make a pipe and also Milltek have a race cat on their system which is MOT legal too. Tested too and no issues from what I understand and guarenteed.

just not keen on the milltek system mate, dont want a cat in, whether its a 'race' cat or not. Cheers for the info though.
Also, that milltek turbo back system is over £1k, I have had a quote from AAS Newcastle which are one of the best exhaust fabricators in the country for around £600. And that means I get the system lay out I want, no cat, the tailpipe I want, the sound I want etc.
One other thing, I have heard that sport or race cats will not be MOT legal(unless you have a friendly tester) which means you are paying £1k for an exhaust system that will need swapping round when it comes to your first MOT in 2/3 years. I'll pay about £400 less, have my original cat modified slightly so I can drop out a section of my new exhaust and bolt my cat in for MOT time. Thats if I keep the car that long.

As for the map, like I say, I trust the Revo software but would like a map tailored to my car and its mods. Not just a generic remap.

well i was looking for info/answers on the questions in my original post. i had already stated why i didnt want the milltek exhaust.

the only other option is a custom one like you said and if you dont want a milltek one whats left?

they are the original questions, nothing to do with alternatives, just questions about the exhaust system design, layout and how it effects the running and ecu of the car.

I believe there were some running issues with a DP, and no map

It should have two lambda sensors, one before & one after the cat (or lack of) - however, it's not known if the second sensor can be mapped out (so yes, maybe lights on a decat)

Dunno, look under the car for more cats.

For circa 250bhp, I'm not sure why the 2.5" would be better.

very few places (non other than Revo) have actually shown that they have mapped a car, and I think the ECU securities are going to cause some issues with places not investing

Thank you for the reply mate.
It might be worth me calling a Revo dealer tomorrow to ask about the DP running issues.

2.5" exhaust are proven to run up to 350bhp on other cars. Thats why I was a little bit sceptical about the 2.76" bore of the milltek. I will call Milltek and ask for their reasoning behind it and if there is I will go for a similar measurement. Just thought someone on here might have already asked the question to them.

I'd call revo, or post in their section. The stage 2 code hasn't been released to dealers AFAIK, so they won't be familiar with the information.

Yeh the heads up is, that vosa have changed the rules with emmision testing. Before sport cats scraped the car through on the legal side once fully warmed up.... Now vosa are wanting to change it, so that cars must test the same figures as when new, ok their must be a specific %% leeway for when the cars are a little older...

Maybe Techie can explain in more detail.

So sports cat may be a problem in the future,

Other argument is, our cars are pretty new and dont need MOT'ing for 3 years so worry about it later

If VOSA do change it, I believe they implement the rule from a specific point any way don't they? So if it is done after ours are fitted we should be exempt from that not?

quite possibly... my new approach to life as of recently is just worry later and get on with it, seems to be working alright as of the moment, bank account doesnt agree like

To cut a long story short, I'm sure the Milltek will perform well but I dont want to spend over £1k to have a restriction in my exhaust when I can pay around £600 and have no restrictions. If I still have the car when an MOT test comes around, I know plenty of people who will turn a blind eye to the emissions test.
The reason I asked my original questions is so that I can design my custom exhaust perfectly.
Thanks for the input so far lads.

i think you got to be careful with custom made ... as in my experience, can loose back compression.. set up has to be just bang on................
