Hi Peeps,
Newbie here, just got myself a spankin leon TDI cupra on the back / FR on the sides?? Not bothered as it came with 6cd and single cd :)
so i supose it was on the cross over, I am chuffed with the power but the power is no good if you can't use it, with or without TCS on the wheels just spin when i need to get a quick start or when its wet, my questions are do you guys have the same problem and have you overcome this somehow?? i would preffer more poke up top end and stop my tyres spinning to be honest. Please let me know what ideas you have, btw i have the standard 17" 205 wheels/tyres on ( bridgestone )
I am away from pc for a few days but look forward to any help

:) cheers

thats just something you learn to live with.
It even more difficult when re-mapped.

Uprated transmission mounting here reduces the wheel hop you get and helps put the power down better, plus feels nicer under hard acceleration.

I noticed the same thing after owning my TDi FR for a few days, try to pull away too quick, especially in the wet and it's spin spin spin  . having said that, a lot of cars do the same if trying to pull away at speed. it's not ideal, but I pull away a bit more slowly to let the car gain a bit momentum (up to 10 mph or so in 1st) .... and then I give it some.

yeah it still wheel spins in 2nd (probably even 3rd but I ain't that hard on my cars [B)] ) but it's still a great car.

I have absolutely no issues with traction, even with ASR off in the wet.

If you treat it like a gutless 16v car and hammer it in low gears then thats what you'll get. Its fine when your used to it. More power? Bring it on...

Thats another reason why diesels arent too good from 0-60.

Great

Thanks for the tips guys, this is the first TDI or Diesel i have owned, had an audi A4 before this and a scooby before that and they are all very different to drive, just wondered if the amount of wheel spin was normal and if you could do anything about it (apart from drive slower).
Many thanks :)

Does it have the Bridgestone Potenza's on out of interest?

I had them on my CTR and always had big traction problems too. When I changed them over to Michelin Pilot Exalto's I noticed a big, big difference!

Just a thought!

My Ibiza came with Bridgestone Turanzas when new, they weren't the best for grip....

But ultimately you'll have to learn to live with the wheel spin. There's such a torque surge at low revs (just look at any dyno plot) that things just let go.
Like others have said, I usually find it best just to use 1st to get rolling, then into 2nd before putting my foot down.

Grant -> Is that gearbox mount suitable for TDIs ? It's listed for petrols on that link.

what is the size of your wheels?

if its 205/50/17" you should be able to go up to 225/45/17" size tyres without any effect on the speedo. youll also find that 225 tyres are actually cheaper to buy anyway :)

Sounds like you should have bought a petrol car then.
The one defining feature of a PD TDI is it's huge torque at 1900rpm(ish), and the one defining feature of a TDI is that it runs out of puff at about 4000rpm.

You do need to learn to drive the diesel differently, and any turbo car responds better to easing the accelerator down rather than snapping the 'throttle' open. This gives the turbo chance to spool up progressively without surprising the hell out of the N75 and other associated valves etc.
