Well thats everyone round my way that own a scooby well and truley stuffed. I honnestly think they make up their own rules in the mot centres. Mine failed on rear pads being less than 3mm:confused:. But passed with hids(out of line) and a decat:wtf:. I wouldn't mind the decat passing but it is only stage1 map. Are motor bikes being tested for loudness aswell as I know quiet afew that have passed with race cans, and that you can hear ticking over about 200 metres away

i went down my mot garage yesteray after looking at this threa they know me and know my car and they know its loud!!
they said this is rubbish and they never heard of such a thing!!
they said as long as it passes the emissions/smoke test its good to go.. obviously passes the other things too but you get my point

maybe the garage just wanted extra money from you... iv been there done that...

failed a random MOT (they garage was offering cheap MOTs) for brake imbalancing, headlights aimed too high and emissions. tried to charge me £120 to fix everything.

i was like p!ss off, took it to another garage. passed MOT straight away. no brake imbalance, the lights were just a switch on the right side of the dash, and emissions were fine...

ok some MOT news!! ok dervs DONT need a cat or a back boz, they can be as loud as 120 decebels to be road legal!!
NEW MOT rules as i found out the hard way
if its louder than a standard car its a straight fail(my tester let me off cos he has not heard a standard 130 leon so he cant judge ;)
if any boxes are removed from the zorst system its not road legal or if there is not cat present its a fail regardless if it passes the smoke test like mine did!!
mine passed as i new the tester and i showed him the miltek website to prove there road legal woithout a cat or back box!!!
just a warning to derv peoploe who have not cat or back boxes!!
oh and mork you was right lol
just vosa being silly i think!! but i will be buying a middle silencer to keep the noise down incase my tester does happen to hear a standard leon 130 tdi ;) and realises there quiter than mine

So if theres no middle silencer then it could fail? How much would putting the standard cat back on affect the noise level as at the moment my milltek is a straight through system but i had it fabricated so i could un-bolt the decat and bolt in the cat for mot time, hope it lowers the noise down enough.

sorry if this is a very stupid question,

however my hard earned pennies will be going to a new exhaust. my plan was to go for a cat back miltek non-resonated. will this cause problems??

thanks :)

Just ask him before the MOT booking stating my exhaust is loud, would this be a issue? save time, plus that mot tester is a ass for failing something on a minor thing!

Just thought i would let you all know but i took my Leon to a different MOT station and it sailed through:D

Less than a week ago it failed on emisions and for bieng louder than a standard exhaust and i havent changed a thing:confused:

So it just goes to show the difference between The MOT place you take it too

they showed me the format for the MOT and it clearly states has any part of the zorst been removed??
if the cat or any boxes have been removed its a fail!! if the car is louder than a standard model its a fail

ok thats sort of good news, one miltek please!! :)

i should be ok anyway as a friend's at work scooby failed at one garage on emissions due to it being straight through and X reg, so she found another garage which blasted the car before they stuck the test bit right up the pipe and passed it no problems. in this case im sure they wont be too bothered about a bit of miltek noise :D

daft question but how the hell do they know how loud a similar standard car is, most cars vary in noise produced and i am pretty sure that the examier dosen't have a mental record of every car model's noise produced when standard

its just a stupid rule i dont know why they even put it intotplace
my tester just said they have never had a 130 tdi in before so they cant recall what they sound like

So is this the end of the aftermarket exhaust industry then? The goverment are going to be paying a lot of dole money after ruining an entire industry.

Quite likely

That or the aftermarket companies will develop quieter ones

I'll be intrigued if my Mazda passes the MOT this year - that's properly loud (as it should be for Jap crap)

But I think because the Eunos was never available in the UK it may have different rules (who's to say what a foreign car sounds like?)

If it fails I'll just stuff wadding up there.

personally i feel that as long as MoT's are around, there will always be some people who wont mind 'helping you out' if you catch my drift! alot of sensible garages know these rules are slightly stupid thus will help a guy out.

therefore next month my car should have a nice shiny miltek poking out the back of it :)

I heard the same things from my dad, he works for VOSA and apparently for years rules have been coming out to prevent loud exhausts from passing MOT's but every time they were worded so that people could get around it, i do not know the exact wording for this rule but i have had this discussion because of my boyfriends car and he said if the exahust has be changed and it is not standard it may fail and also if it is louder than a car of the same type age etc then it will fail. Depends how friendly youo MOT testers are!!
