hi,

has anyone heard of moving the front brake setup to the rear when upgrading the front?

ie gettin bigger brakes upfront and using the the stock front brakes as an upgrade for the back?

Leon Cupra R by the way

sorr it isnt worded correctly, i relly tired lol

What have you done to your car and how do you drive it to require better brakes than the OEM Brembo 4 pots with Badger 5 2 piece discs and DS3000 pads with upgraded brake fluid?
Have you tried the above set up and decided that it's not good enough for you?
I have lots of confidence in the above set up with DS2500 pads and will be trying the DS3000 pads next year.

i have never said i was going to do this lol i was just curious as someone mentioned it to me once.

i have standard LCR brembos with standard pads and discs i dnt have any of that badger 5 stuff.

Ahhh, okay.
Wondered why you thought the OEM set up wasn't good enough for you.
Now you can tell that person he's speaking pish as you wouldn't have the hand brake cable mounting on the front brake caliper

haha finally a firm answer from someone!

so as far as it goes you cant do it because the calipers dont have the handbrake cable bit on it.

cheers

In basic form yes but it would be possible.
A FWD car only has 20% braking from the rear and 80% from the front.
With 20% being 323mm 4 pot brembos you would need MASSIVE front brakes to balance out the braking force.
Bill with his 650BHP Ibiza runs OEM rear discs and pads

lol so what ya sayin is if you did do it youd need dustbin lids on the front to balance it out.

which leads me onto my next question!

can you up the disc size slightly on the front with keeping stock caliers or is it just 323mm and thats it?

as said, you can go to 330x28 2-piece setup with spacer for existing caliper.. you get a few gains, one of slightly bigger diameter disk, you get a significantly cooler running disk, and a disk weight half that of the std one piece 323's

Do you need them tho?
do you experience brake fade ever?

if so, consider ferodo ds2500 pads and some high temp brake fluid like motuls RBF600 for example as first steps to upgrade.

there are larger rear upgrades available, but for fwd I fear they will ruin the brake balance front rear.. you dont want the car to have an inherant rear excess bias for which the ABS system as to compensate for imho

bill

its possible, but brake balance is very important and you would need to do alot of work to get this right, and in the end you would be using only a very small proportion of the brembos potential on the rears.
They may not even be suitable due to the small movements required.

ah ok its just something i heard was tryin to find out if its feasable. Why would the ABS go nuts?

the reason i mentioned this because the engine is in the front of the car, meaning more weight will be on the front tyres, making it harder for them to skid than the rears. Also under braking, due to momentum all the weight of the car is transfered forwards meaning even less weight on the rear - big brakes would lock the rear tyres quick as anything, making the abs go mental
