Without a computer - there isn't one...

However, the best way to tell is this:

Fill up (completely)
Reset the mile thing (is it an odometer?)
Do your 450 miles (Ok, I've got a TDi so I am actually bragging)
Fill up again (completely)
Take note of how many miles you've done

Note the number of litres you've filled up with and multiply it by 0.22 (to convert to gallons)
Then it's a simple case of Miles divided by Gallons, e.g. 150 miles, 2.2 Gallons = 68.18mpg

Nice and simple like.

Or use a spreadsheet that will work it all out for you (I've got one so if you want it, PM me and I'll mail it to you)

Yep - hence the calculations above.

The sheet I've got will plot out your average MPG in a pretty chart over time.

Yes, I need to get out more....

Was thinking of getting a OBD gadget such as scan gauge, thats shows MPG but does car need to have the computer to show it.

I had a mpg computer on my audi a3 1.8T found it usefull, when trying to keep a steady mpg, but with my leon, i have nothing so i just boot it :D

and theres me happy with 540 - you a stickler for 55?
Not at all, i just drive at the speed limit and use cruise control where possible. Also find my car is more powerfull and more economical on a certain fuel and additive mixture over any other fuel, so with that combination i get good MPG.
Booting it around can see me get as low as 550>580-ish :)
