Hi people, just a random one. I feel like my MPG is lower than it should be, however i cant find any previous posts etc on here to confirm it.

I dont drive particularly heavy footed, i dont use the heater and i let the engine warm up before booting it. Yet i seem to average around 30mpg and if im lucky 35mpg.

The only thing i can think of is maybe the K&N cone has lowered it? As previous to that i was getting a constant MPG around 35-39.

Anywhooo could any fellow 1.8T Fr owners post theres just so i can compare and see if its something i should be looking into a bit more.

Thanks :)

James

We recently bought a FR, it is a bit thirstier than what I thought it would be as well we had a Clio Sport before, I do seem to be in allot of start stop traffic recently though an we get about 28 on v power and a good run I saw a return of 31 from a full tank.

I try and gauge it on full to empty and miles I haven't broke the 300 miles to a full tank with the worst been 245 equals around 25mpg

on a long run i now get 33-35, same run (to uni) i used to get 38+. trip used about 25 miles motoraway and about 40 on single/dual carriageway. in traffic its horrendous, stop start will mean under 20 for me, being frugal around 22.
I bought some injector cleaners to add to my petrol today, not sure if its made a difference and also my oil was low so ive topped up with castrol edge which i hope will help the engine run smoother and more economical.
ive seen it go down a touch but obv still not bad for a 20vt, ive known audis with the 1.8t engine average under 20 on a normal drive.

Thanks man, just normally i drive along not noticing but thought today id actually loosh at it. And just thought it was higher normally, although i must of been mistaken.

The most miles its ever told me i can drive on a tank is 280 but tbh i think i average 250-260miles from town driving.

Cheers

Yeah i was wondering if there was anything i could do to try and improve it, as id heard that cone filters can lower it (then again ive read allsorts on the subject lol) id be intrigued to see if the cleaners make much of a diff though :) i suppose i cant complain as overall i do love the car and it makes me smile!

im going to get the k&n induction kit for it, ive read that the mpg should go up? what sort of performance/sound difference did you get?
not hugely concerned with consumption, more after a bit of a performance gain before i get it remapped

It sounds a lot better, hear a nice whooosh. Only thing was the mount for mine snapped :/ so i had to get hold of a new mount. If anything i think mpg goes down as you 'accidentally' find yourself accelerating to hear it :/ id reccommend it.

Yeah I get more or less the same. I do mostly short journeys with lots of stop start traffic. On longer motorway runs I get a little bit better... maybe 37 but not too much better than that.

did you fit yours yourself?
is it difficult?

Without being funny what do you expect from a 5 cylinder 1.8 turbo lol ? I'd say that 30-35 is about right

5 cylinders :lol::rofl:

i found when i had a 20vt cupra running super unleaded got me more miles out of a tank might be worth a go for you although dont expect a massive difference but it does help.
the most i got out off a tank was 400 miles every mile was driven off boost and bloody boring.
