I Take it this can be adapted to use a current car touch screen (Kenwood) or is it not that simple?

depends on the headunit used. if it has a vga port then yes, i dont see why not

Could you hook up the car's OBD to it? That would be handy

yeah you can, simply a case of extending the cable (my OBD cable is usb) to the boot and then if you wanted, embedding it into the front end

I've been thinking about and researching building a car computer for a while now, and I've finally got my act together and started ordering parts.

I then stumbled across your work, and I have to say - I'm well impressed! The part which interests me the most is the way yo've managed to keep your stock audio system. As money is always a factor, I've decided that this is the way forward for now. The problem is, I'm struggling to find the aux in cable for my Alana head unit... I know it must've been a while back that you bought it, but can you remember where you found it?

If i may ask,

how do you handle booting and shutting down the carputer? you go into hibernation on windows or complete shutdown? and to boot up, do you do that after you start the ignition or automatically??
