hiya guys after doing a few guids i thought id start putting them under 1 roof, also i will add new ones if ppl wanted them, there not always going to be the best but i try and make the idiot proof and test them on my self just to make sure lol

so far in this list we have
1 - cleaning the MAF
2 - cleaning the throttle body (new)
3 - trs tow strap - how to make a bracket that will work and be usable

1MAF CLEANING
first up locate the MAF - its attached to the air box (in the yellow outline), you need to undo the jub clip on the intake pipe and the 2 screws that hold it to the air box (in green).
once off remove the actual sensor from the housing (red), use some grips on these as the tourx screws used hav little studs in them (unless you have the correct tool), i then replaced them with normal tourqux screws. CAREFULL when you take the sensor out though its delicate!!!!!

so now its out it will look a bit like this, mine didnt have the diode looking bit but does have the prongs that hold it, most of the aftermarket replacment do look like this with the diode thing, any way this is more or less how it looks and works (thank you google)

spray the cleaner all over this make sure you get a good lot on the metle conductors and sensors, let it dry (depending on what you use you may not need to wipe it after) some thing like a solvent based curcuit cleaner will dry on its own, the one i had from maplin went to a haze, if you need to use a cloth make sure its a clean lint free/micfo fiber, and be gentle!!!
job done, put it back together make sure its all the rite way round and pop it back on the car.
whilst its all apart give the housing a good clean too and get all the shat out of the mesh etc

2first, locate the throttle body (red out line)
unscrew the 4 allen key bolts that hold it on, there are 2 on top and 2 at the bottom, sods to get to but you will see them (top ones are the green spots)
remove the jub clip from the inlet pipe from the intercooler and the little pipe on top (both in yellow).

now its all off cover the intake pipe with a rag or bag so you dont drop anything in there. you will be able to see the butterfly in side, you now have 2 choices, you will want to open the butterfly, you can either disconnect the elec connector and open it manually - BE CARFULL put some thing in there to hold it open, i use a rubber handeled screwdriver handle OR get some one to turn the egnition on but not start the car and hold there foot down on the "GO" peddle.

the shut bit is the butterfly...
now its open spray your carb cleaner all over the inside and get scrubbing, using a clean lint free micro fiber cloth to save any shat etc
you may have to change the gasget on there (the green bit in the above pic) there only a couple of quid but i made my own out of gasget paper from my local car odds and sods shop.
put it all back together and do a throttle body reset on vag come for best results
job done

3trs tow strap - follow the link pls i dont want to re doo all of this one

i will do more if ppl want them done, if i have/can do it that is

good guides!

few things I'd add.. just precautionary measures. I stuck a carrier bag and elastic band over the IC hose, as I didn't fancy dropping any screws down into the IC.

Also not keen on using a screwdriver to hold the butterfly valve wedged open. I'd much prefer to leave it plugged into the loom with ignition on and something/someone on the accelerator pedal, let the stepper motors do their job.

I'm sure everyone has their own techniques/ways etc.. just thought I'd add my 2p's worth

thats a good shout on the throt bod, i normally do it alone so pull it all apart and i normaly use a rubber handled driver.
