MK 5 Ibiza Cupra Build
Took delivery of my Cupra October 2010 at a nicely discounted price as I bought it from the dealer I worked at.
True to form, I wouldn’t let the valeters touch the car and so took delivery of it with the plastics still on the floor, seats and the chalk numbers still on the windows.
Give it a quick rinse over for the first pictures;

Towards November I started collecting a few detailing bits and pieces to go with my already vast collection.
Sonus wash mitt and Zaino Z2 sealant kit.

Zymol HD cleanse and Bilthamber clay from NorthEast Detailing. A ‘Superspray’ from Clean Your Car.com; basically a cheap version of a foam lance, can’t be robbed for £9.25 delivered and a big blue drying towel courtesy of Dave Brown/North East Detailing.

Winter Detail
I had a week off work in November so decided to give the car its first proper detail to protect it over the winter. Started off with it looking like this;

DSC_3429.jpg

DSC_3426.jpg

Sprayed the whole car with an APC mixture first of all;

DSC_3431.jpg

And then moved onto to cleaning the wheels with AutoGlym Custom Alloy Wheel Cleaner;

DSC_3433.jpg

Washed the body work using the two bucket method with grit guards, Poorboys Super Slick and Suds, Sonus wash mitt, big blue drying towel and a Zymol detailing brush;

Clayed the paintwork to remove what looked like a lot of under seal dotted around the car. Got the car in the garage at this stage;

Moved onto the inside where I hovered it all out, put in brand new Seat fitted mats, dressed all the plastics with Poorboys Natural Look Dressing, took out the gash tax disk holder and sprayed some cherry scent  ;

Tiny Mods
Not much has happened to the car in the time I’ve had it. Added a non gash tax disk holder and a Forge Motorsport Blow off Valve;

Bigger mods are starting from now;

First on the list is an SQ Audio Build. Really miss my old set up so I am going one better this time and intend to spec it up to something I will keep for the foreseeable future.
Previous setup was;
Pioneer P6000UB
Rainbow iPaul 4 channel
Morel Hybrid Ovation 5”
Morel 10” Ultimo
For the Cupra, I will be going for;
Pioneer P99
Audison LRx 5.1K
Morel Limited Edition Elate’s 6”
Morel 12” Ultimo
Masses of Dynamat
The Morels’s are already here. Just need to save some more money for the amp and headunit before the build can begin;

Plan for the future include;
AP 4 Pots or Tarox 6 pots.
Eibach coilovers.
Uprated gearbox mount.
ITG filter.
Front mount intercooler- Pro Alloy if one is made soon.
AAS turbo back exhaust.
Custom map.
Any comments welcome. Detailing work available in North East if anyone is interested.

I haven't bought it yet but I do think it will be worth doing. I really like the feel of uprated engine mounts. Stops as much engine movement but will also give it a bit more of a track car feel.

Little Update;
I still haven't got round to fitting the audio setup. I still need to buy a headunit and amp which is minimum £1600 so need to keep saving for them.

Anyway, I ordered an ITG Maxogen filter for the Cupra which arrived today. Its a lovely bit of kit. They seem to get very good gains as the standard airbox setup is said to be very restrictive. I have seen gains of up to 15bhp and 20+ft/lbs on other cars.

I fitted it after work tonight which didn't go as smoothly as planned. The hose and filter itself fit perfectly. The cold air feed has a scoop which connects to the slam panel. The scoop wouldn't go into place properly. My guess is that this kit has been designed on a Polo GTi which may be slightly different at the slam panel.
I think I can get it to fit with a bit of cutting down but I will sort that out on the weekend.
photo.jpg

I took if for a quick drive and you can hear it sucking under load with a slight bark which you get from enclosed filters. Seems to have made the supercharger whine a bit louder and dumps off louder. Its pulling a little harder in high revs but I would expect it to perform better when the cold air feed is on.

Well after having another look at the scoop for the cold air feed it looks like the only way for it to fit is to cut some of the plastic on the slam panel which I didn't want to do. So I have drilled a small hole in the slam panel and cable tied the cold air feed ducting to it and connected it up to the filter.
At first I thought how much difference can it make. Turns out ALOT. The supercharger is louder again and its pulling very strong throughout the rev range. Really pleased :)

sexy..

Good to see you took care of the car from the very beginning! Looks mint!

How is the Forge blow off?

Easy to fit for a newbie like me?

Will follow this thread :)

Thanks for the comment :)

The blow valve is alright. I intend to change it for the piston style valve when the car is mapped. It makes all the right noises but not as nice the regular piston style valves.

Fitting wasn't too bad but it is a little bit fiddly tightening the bottom bolt as you can only really get quarter of a turn at a time.

Rolling Road Day
Got a phonecall from a friend yesterday about a rolling road day at PD Tuning. I went along to watch but thought I might aswel put the car on to get a figure before I do anything else to it.
The car made 189bhp and 186 ft/lbs of torque.
I am pretty pleased, seems the ITG is doing its job. Has gained over 10bhp from standard. There will be a few more bhp to come but I was only running 95ron. I have always intended to run a higher octane when the car is mapped but will start using it from now. Not only for the extra little bit power but on the rollers the car suffered a bit of engine 'pinking' or piston slap when running from 5th gear. The operator stopped the run immediatly and tried a run in 4th which went fine. The higher octane should solve this.

Great work with the cleaning!

Would you recommend the 'A ‘Superspray’ from Clean Your Car.com'?
Guessing you just attach it to the hose like normal.

Closest thing to snow foam until I treat myself to a pressure washer.

Thanks :)

Yea I would recommend the Superspray. For £10 you cant go wrong. It just connects to your hose and does a decent enough job of covering the car in solution. It isn't a foam as such like the foam lances produce but its not bad at all.

Private Plate Update
I've had my eye on this private plate for years. My name is Alex Wright so minus the '6' it looks a little like 'Alex W'. Can't complain for what it cost so I finally got round to snapping it up. Ordered the plates and they got delivered today. I had them made as plain as possible to look very clean and simple yet still keeping them legal with the 'BS' details in the bottom corner.
Called in at my old garage to half inch some sticky number plate pads. (The least they could give me for selling cars for them for a year haha).
photo-5-1.jpg

So I then went out this afternoon to remove the old plates and as I expected it was scruffy behind and still had factory stickers on.
photo-13.jpg

photo-6-1.jpg

I cleaned the area's up with some Megs APC and a Zymol brush followed by some tar remover to get the sticky residue off.

And finally give the car a quick wash as I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and put the new plates on.

Quick pic of my dads new bike. I detailed if for him last week but he's like a child and never off it so its looking a bit dusty again already.

Headunit Update
Pre-ordered the new Pioneer DEH 80PRS head unit last week and it arrived today. A lot cheaper than the P99 that I was going to buy but should nicely control my setup still.
Just got an amp, wiring and sound deadening left to buy before the install gets underway.

Well I decided to keep the Cupra my sensible daily and put my money into something a lot quicker for the summers and occasional track day. I'm going to put my stereo in the Cupra, keep it mint and just drive it. Its a very good car standard.

I have took the ITG off and give it a clean so its up for sale.
Everything in perfect condition. Included is;
ITG Maxogen Filter
Silicone elbow
4 jubilee clips
Cold air feed ducting
Cold air feed slam panel attachment
ITG cleaning solution(never used)
Fitting instructions

This ITG is to fit Ibiza's with the battery in the boot, The Polo GTi and Skoda Fabia VRS (with battery in boot).
It has been on the car for probably less than 1000 miles.
I had the car rolling road-ed with the ITG on and it made 189bhp which is over 10bhp gain from standard. It also gained a few ft/lbs of torque. These gains will rise significantly with a remap also.
This filter is without a doubt the best available for this engine. Proven results and I noticed a big difference in driving. It pulls harder mid range, it makes a nice subtle roar and it looks awesome.

The Revo shop sell these at £250+vat and price is due to rise as the rights have been bought my another company I believe.

I am looking for £250 delivered to anywhere in the UK with a fully insured courier.

Any questions please message me.
