Not sure you can buy a cheaper version of it dock itself. Don't know if a usb stick works on them. I'd imagine it would be ok. Try it and find out lol.

I'm guessing it would have to be formatted to fat 32 and wmv/mp3 files and you'd be good to go

I use a memory stick, converted the .M4a on iTunes to .MP3 and it works a treat

Wicked. Can you just change the file extension or you you need to do some conversional thaumaturgy?

Think I will leave the dock and just get the cheaper BMW lead someone suggested on here. Then I can keep the ipod in the leather case, no use for a dock anyway really when you achieve the functionality thru the head unit.

You'll need conversion software to make them into .mp3 files, there's plenty of free stuff on the net to do it.

A cheaper alternative to the iPod dock would be the BMW ipod cable, you can pick these up on eBay for about £40 (here's one)

Other cheaper ipod to usb/aux cables don't work as it needs to have the chunky box in the middle (as seen on the BMW cable)

However you can just plug in a memory stick with mp3's on it, and you'll save a bit of money, but i personally find it handier to use the ipod as you can just sync it and then put it in the car, and you can browse all your playlists.
