Need advice please

on starting my (1.8 20vt 2003 leon cupra) its sounds a unbelieveably like a diesle
but once i let the key go it settles down

anyone else had this problem
or does anyone know why this might be happening

This is normal behaviour for the engine - it takes a second or two for the necessary oil pressure to be achieved

when tkin to ma mate last night he thought it could have been the starter motor
does urs do the same then

I don't have a Leon any more and mine was a 1.4 anyway. If you do a search for 'sounds like a diesel', you'll see that it's a common trait of the 1.8 20VT engine that people often question as they think it's broken!

The noise is probably the exhaust mount just behind the CAT ... mine was like that until I got it welded up ... been fine since
