Need Front Brake Discs and Pads that at least as good as standard

Hi all,

Know there have been many brakes discs and pads thread, but most seem to revolve around which are the best, and seen many good suggestions (e.g. Ferodo DS2500 + EBC Ultimax).

But I'm looking for front discs and pad (1.8T Cupra, 312mm) that will be better than the standard VAG ones (which cost around £200 from a dealer) but pref a bit cheaper if possible or around the same money, don't have to be best of the best as ££ are important to me at the mo - at the same time, don't want to get the cheapest rubbish on something as important as brakes. So my minimum standard will be VAG pads + discs (anyone know who makes those?).

First question is discs seem to be the pricier element here, so which is better top pads + standard discs or standard pads + top disc?

Next questions is say I went EBC Ultimax Pads plus EBC Standard Pads, then would this be same/better than VAG standard

Finally, other options out there, how do people rate the following(prices from single source for comparison, have seen various items several ££ cheaper since looking up these prices):

Pads:

EBC Ultimax pads - £32
EBC Green stuff - £73
Black Diamond Predator - £53
Ferodo DS2500 - £109
Tarox Strada - £90.
And various others that cost more than the Ferodo, but given how well these are rated think these may as well represent my ceiling price as will be more than happy with those.

And discs:

Black diamond front grooved - £172
EBC Ultimax - £209
EBC Standard - £79
Nitrac 8 Groove - £148
Nitrac 16 - £165


Any other good brands out there that are well priced?

I can only speak from experience but I'm running EBC Turbo-Groove disks with the Ferodo DS2500 pads and I find it an excellent setup. The disks were around the £200 mark iirc but it's always worth shopping round. With the pads, just make sure you follow the running in instructions.

Would also like some info on this, need to change disks soon, deffo gonna go with ds2500 as every one seems to love them, just what discs are the best to run with them?????

Can i ask were you got the price for the Ferodo pads from? as i need new pads for my Caddy which is running the same size brakes as you (pinched from a mk5 gti)

I also have the EBC Turbo Groove discs and rate them very highly. Not sure what my pads are (were on when I bought the car, though soon to be replaced with DS2500) but the car stops incredibly quick and well controlled.

This is a 5 x 100 pcd set up where you'll need a 5 x 112 pcd
