been shopping tonight car working fine no noises at all come back out got bright ignition lights but engine not making any noise no clicking or turning over battery is full charge and car will push start but not turn with key any ideas

Sound like an electrical fault...work backwards from the starter motor - alternator - battery. Check all wiring (including earthing). What happens with the ignition lights when you turn the key ?

lights all stay bright when you turn key to start its a 55 plate LCR with 40.000 would have hoped a vag car would have been better than this:shrug:

It's probably quite a simple fix...a clicking sound would mean a starter motor problem...no sound - it may be totally caput !

If you are certain that the battery isn't goosed, then check the alternator - you can do this by disconnecting the -ve lead from the battery while the car is running - if it continues to run the alternator is ok - if not, that's where your problem lies. (Ps loosen the -ve lead before you start the engine, so that you can remove it easily without a nasty shock !)

If the problem isn't the alternator, it's likely to be the starter motor.

Make sure all the wiring connections to these parts are ok, just in case anything has shaken loose.

It wouldn't be uncommon for any car with less years/mileage behind it, having such problems = wear & tear mate...the LCR is a cracking car !

If you are struggling with it, I stay in Glasgow - if your nearby, I'll help out as much as I can - it doesn't sound anything major tbh.

cheers for help mate its not alternator as charging is fine and there is no clicking from starter solonoid im putting it down to either the engine earth has snapped or the starter has just stopped but the starter has never made any weird noises

Ok mate...best of luck...I had a similar problem with a Vauxhall years ago...checked absolutely everything and was at my wits end, when I came across a seriously worn earth cable...took a gamble and cleaned it up (eventually replaced) and hey presto...sorted.

I think the VAG solenoid packs, sourced from Audi with the 225 TT heart, also had some well publicised problems - I reckon you're not far away from the problem with your investigations so far !

You seem to have some knowledge - I'm sure you'll figure it out....best of luck !
