I need two new front tyres after 10K, which I was expecting as they're just the stock tyres that came with the car. I reckon I've got another 3-4K miles on the back tyres.

Can anyone recommend some decent long-life tyres? I'm not bothered about road noise, I just want long-life and preferably an MPG increase.

I can agree with Michelins they cost more but seem to last longer. Had them on my Passat. Had 2 new Pirellis fitted to the front couple of months ago. Instant understeer in the wet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another vote for the michelins, depending on the type of Michelin of course. Some of their sporty ones wear out more quickly but most of their tyres last for ages.
I've had Michelins that I've had to change because the sidewall has got old rather then the fact the tread had worn out! That's how long they can last on the back.

One other thing about Michelins, I've had them on my company car and they lasted about 1 1/2 times longer than the Continental's I had before, BUT they were also 1 1/2 times more expensive.

PS. I'm comparing Michelin Exalto's to Continental SportContact 3's here in 225/40/18.

That is all well and good, but a puncture near the edge of the tyre certainly costs a lot when you need to replace the tyre long before it is worn out.

I agree, with no punctures, Michelin is the tyre to go for.
I'll be saving around 30% and will go for the Vredesteins

Well I do about 34K miles a year and in 3 years I have never had a puncture *knocking vigorously on wood* :)
I think that the puncture ratio is so low that you'd still save money with the longlifes, IF you can get the right price.
The Conti SportContact 3's I use now last fewer miles. But they are cheaper, don't suffer from uneven wear and have great wheel protection.
So even if it where a private car I wouldn't get the Michelin's. Also the price vs wear ratio is not sufficient for me. Once the price comes in they cost about the same as the Conti's.

But the topicstarter wanted to know which tyres last the longest and well Michelin are the ones :)

just had two dunlop sp sports maxx fitted to mine got 13k from the factory fitted michelins but they were worn past the markers. the dunlops seem to grip better much better in the wet! and they have a decent rim protector and don't squeal as much  will have to see how they last tho £325 for 2!! best last a while glad i don't pay for them company car :D
