Went out to my car this morning,And it was dead...
Opened the bonnet and the Neg term was loose,Got a 10mm out to nip it up but it would not tighten up anymore

So do I buy a Neg battery clamp or A complete Jobbie...not sure if the clamp is interchangeable
Thanx folks

Both the clamps are loose and i cant crank them up anymore so im going to buy 2 brand new fittings complete with the Cable attached

Iv got the same problem as you mate, took battery off and went to clamp em up again and they wont tighten, i thought i was being stupid lol. Where you buying the complete kit then??

Ive browsed ebay, but im yet to find the exact type of fittings with the bolts on the top

I think im going to remove both wires from the clamps any buy the ones where you bolt the wire into the terminal as a last resort, starting to annoy me as the car wont start sometimes due to the loose neg terminal

I dont blame you tbh mate, ill probably go down that route as well as its the cheaper option. Not sure if SERE would have stock of the whole thing, worth an ask I suppose? I even got a fault code today about the terminals as well!!

The battery clamps are probably made of a soft metal alloy, this means that they stretch when tightened up. Or the soft metal alloy battery terminals have been squashed. Maybe get a file/sandpaper and file/sand off a mm or 2 from the 2 sides that touch when it's fully nipped up. This will enable the clamp to do up a bit more.

Either that or get a small sheet of 0.5mm copper plate and cut it with scissors into a small strip, roll it into a tube and pop it over the battery terminal to make it a little bit fatter. (shim it out)

Or get a small wood screw and screw it into the top of the battery terminal, this will expand the terminal by splaying it out a bit. (bit pikey though)

I've just ran a hacksaw blade down the gap before so it allows the clamp to tighten up more again.......

If you're going to use a piece of tin or aluminium can, be sure to get all the paint and any interior coating off first. You need bare metal.
