Hi all,
I'm forever reading on here the crazy mpg figures people get.
I drive a MK1 Leon Fr remapped.
The highest I ever get is high 40's.It was similar before remapping...
Is something wrong
no mine is lucky to do 45mpg, i think people are fooling themselves by resetting the trips at the start of a motorway trip and letting it work it out after that which could give you possibly a higher reading but an average on thousands of miles like mine as i never reset it never gets above 45mpg..
my re-mapped 04 plate Cupra tdi has now done 70k, ive owned it since it's 1st service and i've never, ever seen it do more that 47mpg and that is rare. I normally get 42 on a good run and struggle to reach 40 in and around town, thse figures are if I wear my carpet slippers and drive like an old man with a box of tissues and tartan rug on the back shelf, however, if I drive it with any enthusiasm at all it's 37mpg ish.
I haven't been too bothered as it's still a lot better than my old Cupra R which used to do 22mpg after Jabba had tinckered with it so I'm still better off.
Are these quotes some people post attaining to 63mpg really possible, perhaps...but not in my world
hi peeps i have a ibiza 130 bhp remapped and i always get over 46-8 plus when i drive to work in the morning and general driving, when i really give it some from time to time it drops to 36ish...
have you allgot the same cars???? and they all remaped? if so where are your remaps done from if u dont mind me asking???
The day I picked up my fr tdi and drove it home at a sensible 70ish ( 150 mile trip ) the computer reported 63mpg for the trip. My daily jaunt to work, a mixture of mway, a & b roads usually yields 52.
A recent 1200 mile round trip to Rotterdam returned 53 and i wasnt hanging around. With awarenness and anticipation its possible to maintain a high average speed without resort to flooring it or changing down which helps with the economy.
I dont drive like a grandad before you all start even tho i am one
I've got an ibiza cupra. Usually travel 115 mile to work at start and end of the week. I average about 51-52 if the traffic is good and i ain't got my lights on. I'm lucky to get 47-48 at night.
I use shell v power as well, which in my experience makes alot of difference.
Assuming I'm being even slightly sensible I'll average over 50 from a tank of A&B roads (based on full to full milage readings not just the trip computer). I'd say if you can't do that then there may be somthing wrong with the car, or holty is right and you can't drive a Derv.
I think a lot of it comes down to driving style rather than speed - good forward anticipation, smooth adjustments of speed by looking at situations ahead and easing off the pedal rather than braking when you see brakelights in front, are the key. This doesn't mean driving slow, far from it.
Also, driving in too high a gear hurts MPG, if you're in a gear such that the engine is off boost and has to overfuel to spin the turbo up again every time you try and increase speed, you'll use more fuel; lower rpm isn't always best.
My remapped 130 Ibiza used to return 48mpg long term (calculated from brim-to-brim tankfuls, not trip computer) and could very easily do low-mid 50s on a single journey, without dawdling. It had such a long 6th gear (37/5mph/1000rpm) that I only ever used it above 75ish.
I do regard myself as a pretty good driver to be honest
Just cant ever seem to get to the elusive 50 mark
Also,I think the Ibizas generally do get slightly higher mpg figures than the Leon.
I don't think slower necessarily means more economical. Your engine has a better thermal efficiency when compression ratio is at it's highest. In other words when your getting the most out of ya turbo.
I've tried millers and i don't think it makes much difference when your already running v power. It works on the same sort of principle anyway.
I get 22mpg around oulton park, 17 mpg around angelsy, 27mpg around the nurburgring (cos it's bloody scary) and average 45 mpg on the road with 50mpg possible if i just go with the traffic and don't over take it all ( which i normally do)Seat ibiza tdi 130 205 bhp 380 ft lbs
