New brakes

Finally after 6 yrs and 3 months and 58,045 miles my front discs have been changed .fitted my ebc grooved ,red stuff pads braided hoses and 5.1 fluid yesterday , just got to bed them in and see how it goes . Look well sweet .
gonna hang my old discs up in my garage because they have done me proud.

well here we go . done 456miles on my new discs and pads and im not happy .
1st they make a weird clicking sound when i drive and it gets louder when i brake . sent an email to ebc and they told me that there was runout on my discs and that the disc was touching my pads because of this ,so took them off checked the hubs and the back of the disc and there was no muck and the hubs had been cleaned very well (well done garage). put them back on . no better . so i took of the wheels and positioned a screwdriver tip against the disc in a fixed position , then turned the disc to see if there was any side movement in the disc which there was not (did this to both sides) got back in touch with ebc and they said

you have to measure them with a dial gauge in each bolt hole position
and fit them in the best position

Just having cleaned everything is not enough you have to take the
machining tolerences out of your hub and the inner hub of the disc

Grooves should point from the center of the hub towards the back of the
car

Now this bit puzzles me , how can i fit them in a different position when there is only one retaining screw hole and without the screw in place i will have a right job fitting the wheel back on with the disc flapping about.

SO IS IT COMMON TO HAVE THIS MUCH FUSS FITTING A PAIR OF DISC AND WHERE CAN I GET A DIAL GAUGE TO MEASURE THE RUNOUT .

also i have bedded them in properly and had to brake hard once due to someone pulling out in front of me ( and had wheel judder)

Mine were fine mate!
No problems at all!
Get that bit of noise when i brake, just the trrrrrrr of the pads going over the grooves, but no noise and erfect fit!
Sound like your just unlucky fella!

sounds like i got a dud set , i have spoken to other people with these discs and they are all pretty happy with them but mine are S**t . think its best if i get in contact with the people i bought them from and request a new pair

booked the car back into the garage on wednesday .will wait and see what they say

i experienced that on my subaru,they were s***. the disc 'ssounds like a chinsaw cutting metal, and the red stuff pads caught fire and melted the red paint! went to yellow stuff and after a quick session on the track they were better but still melted and made a loud noise. get rid of the disc's and try ferodo ds2500.

the garage said that in their opinion the discs are naff he said everything else looks really good but that the discs looked like the problem (so thats 3 opinions and 3 garages all saying the same ) now i have to send the ebc ones back before they send me a new set ( for testing) so i will have to buy more discs as i need my car for work and it is no good to me up on blocks ... not very happy and its been a lot of hassle for what should have been a straight forward job... oh and if ebc think that they are fine they are going to send them back to me , regardless or not if they are naff and every garage i go to thinks the same


and if they do them discs wont be going back on my car

i had a set of grooved and dimpled discs front and rear on my old leon cupra r courtesy of bill badger5 and red stuff pads , they worked a treat , and got used like they were always on the track , they were great brakes , definately recomend them to anyone , they done me well , the pads didnt last long but the car did get hammered a lot , but the brakes were always sharp no matter how hot you got them , compared to the green stuff i had on my 2 cars before they were great , the green stuff pads IMO are absolutely shite , i smashed one of my cars up because i had green stuff pads on my car , all they seemed to do when they were hot was brake fade ,

Right sorry to highjack this thread but i got a dilema!

Got my new discs delivered yesterday so last night i decided to give it a go fitting them now got down to the point of actually removing the disc (after removing the screw) and.........
Nothing the disc would not budge at all.
Gave a good couple of hits with a rubber mallet,sprayed with wd40.

So has anyone got any idea as to how i can get it off other that just using brute force

Have you tried hitting the front of the disc might loosen it off. Use a larger hammer but put some wood on the disc to protect it.

yeah tried hitting it with a rubber mallet then with a actual hammer
but nothing.
cant believe how fused on there is seems the car is only 2 years old

Just anup date fitted the discs today. 4ld lump hammr seemed to do the trick
