Hi everyone, in the last few days I've noticed that the clutch has started to slip on my Leon Cupra Tdi.

Just wondered if anyone could recomend a good replacement clutch, and how much/ where best to get it from. Are standard Seat clutches worth considering? as I'm not intending on getting the car re-mapped.

Please help....need to get this sorted asap!

Thanks guys :)

If it's not mapped and you're not thinking about getting it mapped then the standard SEAT clutch should be fine - the stock clutch is good for upto about 300lb/ft of torque, so should handle a Stage 1 map (as long as the mapper ensures it doesn't exceed 300lb/ft torque)

If you have the clutch done, get them to check the flywheel as well and while it's off it may be worth having the output shaft seal checked/replaced - mine went and allowed gearbox oil onto the clutch which caused it to start slipping!

TDi's I've always been told will handle upto 300lb/ft before you get any problems - next stage would probably be Sachs organic clutch with SMF to replace the stock clutch/DMF :)

The uprated Sachs + DMF is also good for 300lbft + (have a look on Jabbasport web site for info, but with the DMF you won't see much change from £1k fitted though!)

Sachs Uprated Clutch (with bearing) = £560
OEM DMF = £250
Labour = £120 ish (a mate did mine for a drink)

You might shave some off here and there with some shopping around but you're looking £900 min I reckon.

thanks for the replys ppl. So how much should i be looking to pay for a standard clutch?

£500 for a standard clutch!!!!! that can't be right can it? (really hope not) :(

oh...thank god! I can un-clench now :) Forgive me if I'm being abit dim, but what is this DMF thing you keep refering to?

Dual Mass Flywheel. Look it up for a video on youtube as to how it works, but basically the fly wheel is one wheel inside another, linked together kinda by a spring to absorb vibration and make the car smoother and quieter. Thing is, they wear and the "spring" goes a bit soggy and it starts rattling and can cause vibrations or fail completely. Whilst the gearbox is off for the clutch, change the DMF. If the clutch is worn, chances are the DMF is too (hence they sell a kit including a DMF and clutch I s'pose).

You can convert to a single mass fly (SMF) but it vibrates more in normal operation. Do a search though as its been discussed to death on here. My pref was a new DMF with my uprated sachs clutch.
