Changing my coil packs for the 1st time, I've got some NGKs from GT to replace the existing ones, the old bosch coilpack came out easily, but Ican't get the old or new one back in. I'm pushing as hard as I can, is it safe to press them in, or tap with a mallet? OR should they slide in easy-ish?

thanks,
:confused:

I wouldn't push them in if they are tight of you will never get them out again if one fails!!

They should slide in easy, but cause there brand new it will be really tight and causing presure in the spark plug tube meaning it's hard to push it, hold both old and new together with the bottom ends touching each other, are they the same diameter? Also try send us a photo

You can try with two in but it's not gonna sound good fuel economy won't be good,if it's just to get to the garage I wouldn't risk it mate I'd get the bus and pick up the parts, if you can get 3 in then it will sound better than two lol and you could drive it, won't be a normal drive tho lol

Also if the new ones are smaller then they should go in, call up the place you got them from and tell them the trouble your having

The issue revealed itself as I replaced the other spark plugs and coil packs.
The remaining 3 cylinders changed over easily(2,3,4)the 4th cylinder (which was the first I tried had 2 problems;
a) the coil pack wouldnt seat properly
b)I couldn't undo the sparkplug.
Got the torch out and started looking and comparing cylinders, well it turns out whoever had been in before me had left the rubber boot on the top of the spark plug.
I managed to fish this out with a bicycle spoke I ground the head off. once out everything swapped over easily and the car is sweet again. :whistle:
