rite so im guessing u guys know that the mk4 ibiza door speakers are crap, ever since i changed my headunit the speakers basically burst, the bass just rattles and the actualy speakers are just in general. ROTTEN!! so need advice on new door components! now i dont know a thing about whats good and bad speakers really, i wouldnt buy crappy make ones and i know tht high wattage is good soo if u guys could gimmie some ideas and a decent price i should pay! Hi there, I found the same thing. I changed mine about 18 months ago. The description i got from the bloke who fitted the new ones was those lod ones were shagged, especially the left one. lol. I have some old speakers in my car that I bought for my mk2 1.4 ibiza sxe that are now in my mk4 they are fairly decent. They are Alpine SPS 1757's I think. They are 6.5 inch speakers or 17cm which ever measurement you like. To fit any aftermarket speakers you will need speaker adaptors. The rear quarters are exactly the same so if you want to change those, again the speaker adaptors are required. I think car audio direct sell them but you have to look at the previous model to find them. Im not certain these will do the job on our mk4's. But a local shop that fits speakers and stuff should be able to order them in for you.
I also fitted new speakers in the rear quarter which were Audiobahn AS62v they are pretty good. They are rated at 90w rms which is what you want to go by, not the max wattage. I've wired these and some old alpine 6x9's up to a JBL GTO 1004e four channel amp which is rated at 4x100w rms. Myself and others who have been in my car have all liked the sound.
Any alpine, audiobahn speaker should be good. There are also many others that are good, like Kenwood, JBL, Sony and Pioneer. Just depends on your budget. Really you will find most aftermarket speakers will sound much much better than the originals as long as they have reletively decent rms wattage and max wattage you'll be able to push the sound higher with better quality.

Speakers are all riveted in. I think the tweeters are glued to the triangle bit near the side mirror. You need to remove the door card in order to remove this triangle bit also. The triangle is held in place with 3 clips.
I didn't have any tweeters in the back of my cupra. Replaced all mine with Alphasonik

yeah, I want to do this with mine but tis just finding time to do it.
I think quite a few people make their own adapters out of MDF, although I havent tried myself so I couldnt say how hard they are to make

I'm currently trying to find a head unit I like to go with speaker upgrades but so far, they all seem very 'tacky'.
The latest pioneer's seem to have some horrible volume knob directional stick, and the alpines don't seem to have a decent seem until you spend £250+.
At the moment it looks like I'll be going for: Alpine CDA-9886R and Infinity Reference 6520CS for speakers in the front doors. Haven't decided whether I'll change the speakers in the back or what sub I'll go for.

thats what headunit im having next week for my birthday i've been looking at it for a while now but the choice of speakers im pondering are either alpine or vibe. and 6x9's in the quarters as i cant stand seeing speakers on the parcel shelf looks too chav especially round my area.
My nearside door speaker has blown, and im wondering whether to replace it with an OEM one or upgrade now. I still have the standard headunit, but want to upgrade that and speakers when I have the money. An OEM speaker is only £14, so I might just do that for now and save up for some better ones later.

I have recently changed mine, was worth it but took f**king ages. Had to drill out the rivets, wire the speakers in then fabricate small metal tubes to hold the speakers off of the door (without the plastic bits!!!)
