Kenwood KDC-W7041U with bluetooth and ipod lead. Also you can get the adaptor for the steering wheel controls if you have a multi-function steering wheel.

I looked at getting an Alpine 9887R, but Alpine dont do the adaptor and i wanted to keep the steering wheel controls. Not sure about pioneer and i didnt see any units i liked.

i've had pioneer since i can remember.. although i'm interested in getting the steering wheel buttons to wrok again, someone said something about skoda?

I wanted a head unit with USB port for memory sticks and ipod connection incase I get an ipod in the future. Asked today at an audio shop about various HUs and the rattled through a list that fitted my bill. Then when I mentioned the steering wheel controls, the expression on his face told a few stories. He said it costs them £40-45 for the adaptor for the wheel controls and there was no guarantee that it would work out. He says he's had a 50% success rate fitting them to VAG cars. He said "it's nice having steering wheel controls, but you'd have to do without them". So I didn't bother, as I refuse to do without them. So was he right about it being difficult to get that to work with the wheel controls?

It was mainly Kenwood and Alpine stereos he was showing me. I did want a Pioneer, as I had one in my last Ibiza (without steering wheel controls) and it was great, plus it matched the red of the climate control when it was dark.

So I'm either thinking of a CD changer that reads MP3 discs or maybe an ipod and a connection to my normal HU, which to be fair is good. It's just the lack of CD storage space and the messing about changing discs that I wanted to sort out.

I've heard mixed reviews of that fusion head unit with internal docking. Apparantly the ipod gets very hot when inside there (not sure if this is bad for it), and scrolling through the ipod menus is not as good as Alpine or Pioneer.

I've got an Alpine ida-x100, have to say for ipod interface it is amazing, best I've ever used, and since I never use Cds its perfect for me. Also got the optional Bluetooth interface on it.

I got the adapter for steering wheel controls from an audio shop - they said Alpine don't make one for the Ibiza (probably could have used one for another VAG car in hindsight) but they knew a company that were able to custom make one. All works perfectly, and the adapter cost 20 quid which wasn't too bad.

I would always stick to Pioneer or Alpine myself, or Becker if you can afford it!

Ahh I see. I did wonder when the bloke in the shop told me, as I looked last night at this in a search and found plenty of people who had their controls working with no problems. Those Alpine units look good to me. No need for CDs in the car ever again!

my criteria when getting a HU was a good quality one with ipod/USB interface, control for ipod, CD/MP3 player, steering wheel control ability, key lighting to match the interior.

Result: DEH-P700BT , the Bluetooth was a bonus, the menus are not bad once you get used to them, but can be fiddly at time when you're driving along.

In regards to the steering wheel adaptor, you may have to check the FAQ bit as i see your car's year might be the facelifted version which means the wiring may differ.

hey guys i got the pioneer double din AVH-P4000DVD and wondered i know the problems with car steering wheel controls, however anyone got them working in a facelift mk4 and if so where from and ill try it!
