For me the ultimate praise is that I can't think of another car of a remotely similar price that I would rather own at the moment. I have been looking round at the other possibilities but there is nothing I prefer.

I like the size: big enough inside but small enough to slot into most parking spaces.
I like the performance: even standard it seems to keep up with most other cars I encounter on the road and the power for overtaking is fantastic.
I like the economy: if I want to go somewhere I can just go without having to worry too much about the fuel cost.
I like the handling: great for belting round the country lanes here and yet comfortable enough for a 400 mile journey to Scotland.
I like the exclusivity: 18 months on I have still only seen two others on the road.
I still look forward to getting into it and driving it every morning.

Sorry, I guess I'm just a bit of a FR bore.:)

Got to agree there. I never liked the initial mk4s, no matter how much I tried. I loved the mk2 and mk3 Beezer but the mk4 didn't do it for me. I even bought one and tried to like it, but it just didn't feel special enough. BUT now having seen the facelifted version I've got to take my hat of to SEAT - it should have been like that from the start; great looks, great spec and pretty darn good pricing. The Petrol FR is superb value for money, especially when compared to the forthcoming Polo GTI.

I think your mis-understood, this thread was started before the FR came out, it is all about the first FR ibiza's (the time when the TDI Sport models were the newest)

I posted in this thread back when it was current hence why I'm reading it now. I still think the sport was a dull car, I owned one, it lacked character, full stop. The FR was an improvement in many areas but as I said above the 'new' FR is what it should have been from the start. Just bringing the thread up to date.

If you merely wanted to know whether my opinion has changed on the original FR then my thoughts still are: It's okay but still lacks something. I preferred the Skabia vRS, and still do. Second hand the FR is probably cracking value for money, and if I needed a commuter car it would be near the top of my list, with a set of 17 inch alloys on, so it didn't look so top heavy - which neatly brings us back to the 'new' FR.......
