Hello All

Just got myself a T Reg Mk2 Ibiza which i swapped for a R Reg 1.4LS Mk3 Astra and a £100 which i think is a bit of a bargin seein as though the ibiza only has got 70000 on the clock

Unfortunatly its only a 1.2 so its not very quick but hopefully is a lot more nippy than the tank of an astra i have been driving about

Below are a few pics of my new toy
Its a 5door which is a pretty rare thing i think as i have not seen one other five door car on this forum at all lol

I think it looks quite a tidy little motor saying for the price got it for

I am having a twin pipe exhaust put on it which i think will make it look nicer than it already is

So have any of u MK2ers got any cheap (ish) modding sugesstions for me, or just any general feedback on the car at all?

cheers

Duke

its not a 1.2 i can assue u;)

they never made a 1.2 mk2 ibiza it was the 1.0l or more likely for your age of the car a 1.4 ibiza, way to check is engine code but i beleive by plate the only engines were 1.4 petrol 1.9 diesel and the 2.0l gti models

right as for mods, exhuast you have and a cold air intake with a green panel cotton filter may give you an extra couple of bhp

if you search for the subject of modding on the boards you will find stuff, 15mm rear spacers are another mod and suspension to improve handling but its not worth it in with a 1.4 as the gains are not received from the time and money put in

motor looks in good nick too so just keep care of it really, and i think you will find its faster than the astra and a few others as well but its still a 1.4 at the end of the day so don't expect blistering performance

its looking very tidy and in good nick :)

modding wise, its a good idea to get all the cupra model parts as theyre fairly easy to come by and often reasonably cheap.

-chin spoiler from 8v or 16v,the 16v ones a little deeper
-Cupra headlights.these are much nicer looking than normal ibiza HL
-front fogs, though you can always get the fog panels and mesh the holes instead.
-colour code the 'grille' between where the fogs would sit

-boot spoiler (which you already have)
-bee sting aerial(which you already have)
-side skirts;im not sure if these fit any differently to a 5 door, but I doubt it
-a cupra flag, like the one in the link but without the '4'.These look nice placed on the boot or perhaps the grille

-reflective boot panel.these are quite hard to ge thold of,but basically the plastic panel between the lights is a red reflective one on the GTis which matches the rear lights and looks really nice.

Interior wise, you can look at cupra or 1.4 sport sets as both have decent buckets in,or you can use a set from a mk3 golf.
Mk3 steering wheels I believe are a direct fit,and the mk2 gti and cupras both have leather bound wheels.
There are many variations of ther heater controls in alloy, chrome look or brushed alloy, these can easily be found on ebay for cheap.

Chris285 - So this is definatly not a 1.2 then? I cant look at logbook or engine code at the moment cos its at my mates garage until tuesday gettin some bits and peices done to it (Cambelt, Brakes and fitting me a new exhaust system)
Bloke who i bought it off sed it was a 1.2, but i wont be complainin if its a 1.4 lol
Thanks for the comment anywayz bud

Beeza - Thanks for all the modding sugesstions :D I would really love to get the cupra headlights and the cupra flag for the boot. Not too botherd about doin anything like bumpers or sideskirts atm due to shortage of money lol, buts its a possiblity in the future

This is the current iterior which i have:

I quite like it and its it pretty good nick
I would really love the half leather/tigherprint one tho which i have seen on here a few times, looks really clean and comfy :p lol

Cheers for the sugesstions peeps

keep em comin :D

By the way

The pics of the interior arn't from my car, there from a owners thread on ere which are the same as mine.

Just thought i would say that seein as the the interior in the pic is from a 3 door an my car is a 5 door!

Thats the 'sport' interior which is fitted to the spec cars :) I have that in my sport, its a nice looking set. Which steering wheel have you got?just the normal one I assume, but its really worth sourcing a second hand leather bound one if you can.

You already have the bumpers (the same on all ibiza facelift models),and the splitter and fog holders wont set you back much even brand new,so those are 2 things you shoulod definately get, theyre a big improvement.
Also colour code the centre part of the bumper, yours is black at the moment.

The cupra headlights can be pretty expensive though,so you may want to have a look around at breakers.

i have got the same steering wheel as in the interior pic
I have been been looking at a few steering wheels up at my pals garage. He mods up the Mk1 golfs and always has Momo steering wheels lying around so i would probs beable to get hold of one of those for very cheap ;) lol
But i would prefer a leather one, looks more luxury lol

I would like toget front fogs as well, as long as they dont cost the earth i think that will be one of the first mods

Another question for you all as well

Howz the fuel consumption on the ibiza 1.4s? Is it any good or does it just drink fuel?

The GTI splitter is only 17 quid from the dealers.

If your car is an xs or a sport then its definetely a 1.4

Im sure the 1.2 was only available around 97 on the facelift cars. That was during the change from pre-facelift to face lift. S reg and T reg, 1.4 engines were the smallest engine available.

fuel is not bad on the 1.4, i get about 37mpg from mine but its done just under 93k and my route to work is not the best so on a good run i can get between 40 and 45mpg

just don't expect amazing performance, but i go around in 30 limits at 30 in 5th gear:p

the engine code should be in the handbook, mine is APQ if that helps as the same year as yours and was the smallest engine they did afaik

nice car mate, as for mods id make it handel better if you dont have a big engin, lower it strut braces, poly bush's,rear spacers

Got the logbook tonight and yea, its a 1.4 :)

Hope the fuel consumption is better than in my astra
That car drank petrol for fun, and that was only a 1.4.

Am really looking forward to doin some small mods to the car, nothing too overdramtic or 'chavvy', I just want some nice subtle changes to it ( brake calipers etc)

so keep the mod sugesstions comin people :)

Hi All

The brakes in the ibiza is well to say the least.....pants
i have been readin a few threads and a lot of peeps say that the brakes are shocking on the 1.4s.

Can anybody help as to how i can improve the brakes without costing me loads?

cheers

alot of peopel are useing the frodo ds2500 pads as they have good bite,im thinking on getin some with some black dimond dilled and grovved disks
dont get ebc disks what ever you do.you could put biger calipers on but i think you need to change the carriers, also flushyour brake fliud and put fresh in i found this realy helps!
