New LCR damaged on collection!

Hi Guys,

This is my first post here but i have been watching the forums for a while now (Excellent forums, site btw)

I recently took adavantage of the seat revolutions offer and purchased a new LCR in platinum. Yesterday i went to pick up the car and noticed a few scratches around the car, all of which were very minor and polished out. There was also 2 very tiny chips on the passenger side door and one on the colour coded door trim.

They offered to spray the door, which in my opinion is not a good solution, i really don't want to take delivery of a new car that has had paint work already, it never matches 100% and i would also worry about things like overspray/orange peel.

In the end they touched the chips in with a paint stick in the bodyshop, you can still tell that this has been done but it does look alot better. I ended up accepting this but am now wondering if i should have asked for more to be done about it? I'm very happy with my new car but do feel a little disappointed regarding the chips.

Is this acceptable for a new car? Has anyone else had a similar experience? I do appreciate that the cars travel along way to get here and can get damaged in transit/at a compound somewhere.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks

you're still entitled to a 14 day cool off period if you change your mind, noticed a couple of 55 reg LCR's down at listers bodyshop today, looked like the bumpers has been replaced

Mine had a few lumps taken out of it on the last service and i wasn’t happy at all as they just got the touch up pen out and filled them in so I went made and got a huge discount.

If i were you i would have demanded that the fix it (respray all the parts until there perfect) as they may have done this to a few of us without us noticing on collection then demanded some money off or some free servicing. Welcome to the fold by the way and I hope you enjoy the site and your new toy as much as we do.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I'd just like to add that the chips are very small. Do you think companies like chips away could do better than just touching something in? I would prefer not to get the door sprayed if possible.

Also, in fairness to the dealer they did offer to replace the whole car (should have mentioned that in my initial post) But said they would not be able to get one in the same colour, unfortunately platinum is the only colour left in their stock that i was interested in.

Regarding the 14 day cooling off period, is that still the case if i have no fincance on the vehicle? It was a cash purchase.

Thanks

Yeah should be easier if you paid cash.

Chips away should be able to do something better, but you need to find the right one (there a franchise so different areas specialise in different things) and two I would get the garage to pay for it!

Make sure you go to the boss and tell them your not happy and that you will be taking your servicing etc elsewhere if there not willing to help as thats where they make there money. Good luck and at the end of the day if you get nothing its not the end of the world, just a bit annoying

Hi,

I just spoke with the dealer principal as the sales manager was not available today. He said he was willing to do something about the situation and will discuss it with the sales manager. He will call me back with a solution tomorrow moring. He mentioned changing the door with another cupra r in the same colour or going the chips away route.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

i would simply give it back to them and demand another car.

you paid for something which was brand new. not new but slightly damaged.

if you had bought a TV with a few chips in the screen im sure you would have taken it back.

£10k upwards is a lot of money, get what you paid for, don;t get fobbed off with excuses.... i did when i bought a ford, i regretted it so much, (although i sold the car and got a mk2 golf!!)

Im sorry to say that many cars already have "spot repairs" before they even leave the factory! so i think i would have the repair done. As for the orange peel or poor colour match your dealership should be able to get a 100% match on a brand new car without problems.

i had a few chips by the same stealer as scotty_b, and i was very pi$$ed, didnt have a mark on it until it went in for a basic service, not been back since, cowboys!

true but i would have rejected it, but i know how hard it can be when your dying to have a drive of it :)

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies. I think it's probably to late to reject the car now, i accepted it and have already done about 150 miles in it. To be honest with you i'm happy for them to just repair it properly rather than bodge it. I'm sure there are many new cars that are damaged in transit but repaired to a high standard without the customer even knowing!

As previously stated I did want to reject the car but i didn't want another colour (very few LCR'S left)

Thanks

I am in a similar situation in that I have a white streak under the lacquer on the drivers door.

I have 200 miles on the clock and after finding rattles all over the place lost the plot.

I talked to the dealer who said no problems will paint.

I waited a few days then got annoyed and phoned consumer direct to understand where I stand.

They said basically you have a case for rejecting as paint defects class as major defect. So I told this to the dealership who have asked for one chance to put it right.

Im letting them try and if its not 100% they know I will reject - so chin up mate seems a common problem and remember you are the consumer and have the right to reject if need be

Hope you get it sorted though :)

Hi Halo,

Thanks for your reply. I tried calling consumer direct earlier today but could not get through, was told someone would call me back within 24 hours. I'm not sure where i stand now as i have accepted the car knowing about the damage.

Did you know about the defect prior to delivery?

Not I didnt see it, I dont see how it would change your rights though as essentially the car has to be fit for purpose - and you are allowed to change your mind !

I would phone them again in the morning - it made me feel better knowing exactly what my rights were.

In the end I decided had it been fixed before I saw it I wouldnt ever have known so as long as its up to scratch ill take it back

I'm pretty sure you can reject any new car in under 14 days for whatever reason, could walk in on day 13 and say "don't like it" and they have to give you a refund

Hi Guys,

I have phoned consumer direct today and i can still reject the car if need be! I have discussed it with the sales manager who has suggested changing the door again, the other door is from a brand new LCR in the same colour. Is there any reason why changing the door would be a bad idea? Surely doing something like this would be better than going the 'chips away' route?

Thanks
