Hi, I recently bought myself a '57 MK2 Leon Cupra after writing off my 350z  and I have a few questions so I thought I would make one thread rather than loads of tiny ones.

  1. Can I change my daytime light bulb to be white like my main lights, how/what do I need to do this, how is it for MOT's and how can I ensure it won't be annoying for other drivers.
  2. Is it possible to change the plastic bit on the rear (Diffuser ? Trim ? Bumper ?) to one like the Cupra R, I do intend to have a new exhaust system soon which will go along with a change in the diffuser.
  3. Are the (shagged) alloys currently fitted to my Cupra standard? I do not recall seeing them on other Cupras of a similar age to mine
  4. I have noticed a very slight fuel smell when getting out of my car, is this normal for the 2.0 TFSI
  5. BWJ Engine code is the/a good one right?
  6. As far as Tuning go I've only really seen REVO and I will almost certainly be going with that, any other tuning advice before I get started?
  7. I'm 99% sure my car is Pre-Facelift (PRE-FL)
  8. Is there anything I should be looking out for / changing on my standard (as far as I'm aware) Leon?
  9. Got my eyes on a genuine Ross-Tech VCDS cable is this a good buy? Or will I rarely use it

Thanks, I know this is a lot of questions, hopefully, its not too spammy and/or useless questions just thought id make one single thread, makes it easier for everyone then. I know im not quite a useful member yet, but I hope too be soon hah.

Well, I'll have a go.
1. You can change them out for LED bulbs. Many of us do this, the white matches the main lights but you may get errors thrown up on the dash. Which you can ignore.
2. Think it was Maxton someone mentioned that does a range of diffusers for the MK2. Maybe Triple composites still do them also. Or you could get it sprayed black. See below.
3. They look like the factory ones to me.
4. Hmm, can't say I've noticed. Although my exhaust stinks if I get out right after I switch off. Maybe shove your head under the bonnet and have a sniff.
5. No idea. Mines CDLA.
6. I've got Revo and have no issues with it. R-tech are worth a look if you can get there. And also do a pre-tuning tips guide.

Could also have a look at my guide and readers ride:

https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/bye-fr-hello-speed-blue-mk2-cupra-r.435417/
7. Looks Pre-FL to me. Mines FL.
8. Check guides above.
9. Hopefully you'll never use it. If your just after reading fault codes or tweaking settings go for Carista or OBD11

Cheers mate, I swear whenever I post a question anywhere you always answer, I feel like I should be paying you for consultancy services at this point!

Looking at these bulbs for my Sidelights, hopefully, should be an easy swap. Will the errors it throws be a failure on an MOT?

Haha, I was having deja-vu answering. Yeah, sidelights should be easy to swap. Hmmm, that's a tricky one. Generally with the sidelights I only tend to get the odd error when it's been chucking it down or really really cold. And simply turning them off and back on gets rid of the error. It's only really when the bulbs are cold (if at all).

Got my MOT in about 5 weeks and thanks to LED fogs have a permanent bulb warning light on. So guess I'm about to find out.

I had a quick look at Fiberworx, I've noticed the parts are named "Leon FR Fibreglass FX1 Twin Exit Rear Diffuser" might be a silly question, but I don't have an FR? Will it still fit?

I've also noticed the front spliter has (pre) in the name of the part, yet the rear diffusers aren't labelled (Pre) or (FL); is the rear splitter the same fitting on Pre and FL?

Sorry if these questions are silly or ignorant.

1 - Yes you can check this post for the ones I used - https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/which-cheap-mods-work-fit-and-which-do-not.447329/
2 - yes as previous posts
3 - they look standard to me
4 - I currently get no fuel smell when getting out the car, is this after a run or just a short trip?
5 - didn't know there was a good and bad one lol My Pre FL 2.0 was great and so is my FL 2.0 lol
6 - Like @Legojon said Revo or R-Tech, Cam follower and a few valves will be worth looking at but all on that page from R Tech i think
7 - I definitely looks Pre Facelift from the wing mirrors
8 - Depends on budget I guess and if you want cosmetics or power lol
9 - I would recommend getting OBDEleven instead as it's only £60 with the dongle (only works with Android) it's pretty much VCDS but on your mobile... You can do long coding etc

Hope that helps

Thanks for the link to your thread with the LED's, saved me £20 there.

Also, I had to buy the Carista unit as I only have iPhones available to me.

As for the fuel smell, its only after long journeys. On my daily work run of 0.8 miles (I'm honestly too lazy, I should walk, but I'm still enjoying the new car) I cannot smell it.

It seems to come and go. There is a specialist near me that did a 4WD Stage 4 conversion on a Leon MK2 Cupra, I'm going to let them have a look over it and prepare it for stage 2. I'm sure they'll see if anything is out of the ordinary.

Thanks a lot for all the replies, very helpful.

I have just asked the question about the bulb failure light on dash it’s at worse case a advisory on a mot

Brilliant. Thanks for checking. I think I'll just leave em in then. As it's a decent garage and I'm a regular, I did kind of hope they'd just look and see the lights were actually working and ignore it anyway.

Update on the OBD Reading, Error code P2261 came up.

Anyone got an experience with this, I'm going to do some googling and have a look see what that is about.

Got the bulbs ordered, should be here on the weekend.

Also the codes about the drivers door I can ignore, I had to replace my wing mirror after 2 days ownership due to being side swiped outside my house while parked.

Hmmm, I'd probably start by checking the diverter valve. Is it an aftermarket one? Not sure if it's like the FL ones, but the older DVs were prone to splitting internally.

Yeah bit of googling has lead me to this conclusion. Going to look tomorrow, check for cracking.

Tbh the turbo sounds mental, like it has an aftermarket blowoff valve. That could be triggering it, or do all cupra turbos sound mental.
