New to VAG-COM Extremely confused

I have to say I think VAG-COM must be one of the most confused subjects ever. I'm nowhere nearer clarity on the subject after hours of searching.

All I want is to be able to find faults and see them then clear them simple. I have a 2003 LCR 210 and I was considering buying a eBay cable. Can I then download the lite version from Ross-tech then register it later?

I think the lite version gives limited fault code decoding, if you ever plan on doing modding in the future, I would suggest getting the latest full version. I know it's circa £250, but I think that's reasonable for a lifetime of "knowing" what's wrong with your car.

As a member of the staff of the creators of VAG-COM and VCDS (Ross-Tech, LLC in the US), perhaps may I be of some help.

For a 2003 LCR, you can purchase a KKL style interface that is compatible with our VCDS-Lite product (sometimes still marked as VAG-COM 409 by some flea-bay vendors). One of our distribs in the UK sells a compatible wire: http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGUSB.html

You can run VCDS-Lite in shareware mode - not paying Ross-Tech anything. If you find you need more advanced features from VCDS-Lite, you can buy a license from Ross-Tech for $99USD.

If you want a full system as james.l suggested, you can contact our UK distribs or you can go to our web site and purchase in our shop.

BeartheBruce i was hoping you would chime in for a clear bit of info. As my car is the 2003 i will purchase the cable then upgrade if i need to no need for the full fledged system for my car i don't believe.

Thanks all GWalkaa

The VCDS-Lite Registration/License can be purchased in our web shop. The item is listed under Enthusiast Systems as VCDS-Lite Software Registration - $99USD

Thanks for the links, so where can i get a cable that will work with the VCDS-Lite latest version. Can i get one from Fleebay? Those are okay arent they to work with the shareware version, would i later be able to register VCDS-Lite and still use a USB cable?

Well for the sake of £10 and for it actually working I think I will order it from the supplier. I've heard many stories about them not working with VCDS-Lite, just the 409 etc.

Thanks for all the help!

Sorry for slight thread hi-jack...

BeartheBruce, will the registered version of VCDS-Lite allow me to do a throttle body reset on a 2003 Leon Cupra R?

The registered version of VCDS-Lite will allow you to use all of the Basic Settings and Adaptations. So, yes, it will....

I make the assumption that you are already running VCDS-Lite in shareware mode, having full communication with the engine. If not, make sure your set up is capable of this first before buying the license for the full VCDS-Lite. Licenses do not make the product talk to modules...... licenses unlock the restricted procedures.

Thanks for the response!

I'm able to read fault codes etc so I think my setup is working.

Will buy the full license on pay day :)
