Hi, just got my self a cable etc..
and have several versions of vag com here,

i got it connected and tested ok with the most recent version.
carried out a scan, and it stopped a little in,
because it was not registered.

Is there any simple programs that are able to download for free to read codes?
i have an engine light on my dash and wonna know why.

i tried an older version of vag come my mate gave me,
now both versions will not recognise the test has happened/is ok.

now i have two versions,
there is no clear way to uninstall them either.
i can un install the drivers in the control panel\add/remove programs, but not vag com.

any help/advice is welcomed please.

many thanks
:)

vagcom doesn't do much when installing, simply deleting the vagcom folder will remove them. Then again, I've had 309 and 411 installed together and they work fine.

The free version of vagcom should read and clear fault codes. I'd suggest clearing out all vagcom folders, and getting VCDS-lite from www.ross-tech.com.

what type of lite would i need?
hex, uni com, bi com, etc.. ?

thanks

ok thanks will try that.

i did get my working abit now though,
the older version just says excessive comm errors, and cant sync baute rate.

The newer version i cant activate, and stops its scan after address 2 or 3.
says not a registered copy, pleas..... blah.

?

just tried vcds lite,
and it still stopped after/on address 3 / abs.
and says this copy of vcds lite needs to be registiger/auth .... etc...

:s

You have a driver install issue. Did you install the drivers that came with your wire? Did you get drivers from your supplier? There are many threads on this forum that already discuss how to install and get the free versions of VAG-COM and/or VCDS to work. Perhaps you could do a search for these?

Also, many anti-virus programs interfere with the operation of VAG-COM and VCDS. You may want to try stopping some programs to see if one of them is causing your problems.

VCDS lite wont do full vehicle scan until it's registered. Access each module in turn individually and check for fault codes. Use the list of numbers shown when you chose your chassis type from the dropdown in vehicle scan to see what modules you have. Clue - look in 01-engine

Excessive comms errors and baud rate suggests it's a problem outside of VAGCOM, as Bruce says it could be the drivers. It may also be the quality of the lead, there are some cr**py ones out there.

Oh, and I find that running it under administrator helps...
