I want to buy a Mk1 Leon Cupra R but as it will be my main car and needs to tow so I am after a TDi
So really what I need to know is which model year am I looking at?
Are there differences that are substantial between model years?
What are the power upgrade options?
Can I fit a tow bar?
I have looked through the FAQ's but only found a reference saying TDi available from 2003...

So what are my options? FR Cupra or Cupra R

Thanks in advance

No such thing as a Cupra R TDI matey.

You can have Cupra TDI or FR TDI which are more or less the same as the FR was a rebranding exercise performed on the Cupra.

There is also a later model FR+ which is a TDI 150 with Cupra R bumpers and 17" (as opposed to 18") Cupra R alloys.

or tow with a cupra r petrol ;) you will struggle to get a towbar fitted to a cupra r though as it was not type approved for towing (I ended up fitting my own removal towbar).
all other models of the leon can have towbars fitted without a problem.

ahh thats dissapointing. I had a look and your absolutely right so sorry about that!! i have a brochure from a while ago (maybe before release date) that showed the R as either the 225 20vT or a 160 bhp diesel... and no mention of the 210??

Ah, ok so a cupra TDi or FR TDi now to find what I'm missing out on by buying a derv rather than petrol, what are the differences between the 2? I want the best car I can buy but really want a TDi, so?
Wheels
Brakes
Interior
Toys (AC etc)

What are my choices?

Thanks again.

Did you miss the last line of my post? Perhaps you are referring to the FR+ which looks like an LCR from the outside but is a TDI.

Made 04-55 iirc. The difference between the R and FR+ is the FR+ has 17" alloys rather than 18s" that are on the R. The R comes with Brembo brakes, different anti-roll bar, black and red interior with black headlining, different steering wheel... theres probably more, but thats all I can think of at the moment! oh, and the R remaps to 270+bhp and 300+lbft for ~ £265 :D
