115 bhp. Not sure about torque. They're only the 8v's.

Torque is around the 190 mark i think but dont quote me, i saw it somewhere.

Its not exactly quick off the mark but as 130 tdi mentioned it seems to go into steroid mode when you hit the 4k.

As for the pump, £38 fills the car but only lasts for around 300 miles, i dont know if this is good or bad? I average 38mpg on the way to work on the onboard computer if i drive "sensibly" if i start giving it some it averages at around 30 - 32.

Its great around the bends though and i dont know for the rest of you with the cupras and fr's but mine makes a very pleasing sound when i step on above 2000 rpm?? not a sound ive heard in a 4pot before, could be something wrong maybe?

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I had one. If I didn't do long distance driving, I would have been happy enough with it I guess. Going steady, I got 35mpg from it.

It did make a really nice noise, don't panic, there's nothing wrong with yours. :)

i THINK you will find its the old mark 2 golf gti lump which was 115 bhp and 125 ft/ibs its a fab engine an almost bullit proof , years ago had some mates who put Kent high lift cams in theres and they went ballistic from 4 to 6k and sounded fab with KN 57i induction kit and diff pipe on. did not kill the fuel econamy when you kept revs down either. I bet there are loads of tuning bits available.
oh an welcome aboard.....

I've been told this also, same engine as the mk2 golf gti. Obviously theyve stuffed all electronic management on it now and that. Or have they?

I know what you mean about the suck noise when you stab the gas whilst sat at the lights

it is normal and it is exactly what it sounds like (the engine sucking air through the air filter)

take the filter off or fit a Green Connon/K&N and it will be louder

IMO it's a good engine but underpowered, this is why it's bullet proof, it's lazy, old 1987-1992 vauxhall 8v 2.0 used to be 130 bhp

as said with a high lift cam it will scream up to 6k revs but remain normal under 4k (a bit like a civic type R

Ok guys, shes been to the shop over the weekend, the guy said that the knocking is actually the Anti-roll bar connector rod or something, apparently theres a ball joint at the top and bottom or something and thats worn. Noise seems to be worse now he's played with it. Going for replacement middle of next week. Also he said the exhaust was fine, as nathwarr mentioned its just the filter.
