Afternoon all,

Im hoping someone will be able to give me some answers to my issue.

Firstly, if a car has a rear wash wipe, will it fail an MOT is the wash feature fails to work?

My seat Ibiza 1.9 sport’s wash function is not working as it should. The nozzle seems clean, as I have checked it, all that happens is a small squirt, spraying an area covering 5 cm by 5cm!

There doesn’t seem to be a leak in the boot?

The front wash wipe works fine.

Any ideas any one? Anyone encountered similar issue?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that a non-functional washer will fail the MOT. Ironically, if you remove the rear wiper completely it will then pass!

I'd check all the way along the pipe for potential leaks - they're always the favourite on these cars. Perhaps get someone to hold the washers on for you whilst you investigate?

thanks for the replies guys,

im debating whether to remove the blade or not before the MOT next week?

In my experience, the problem is rarely a blocked nozzle - the filter on the washer bottle nozzle tends to preclude those issues, but I suppose it's worth a crack if nothing else is obvious.

A word of warning regarding removing the wiper - it's very easy to break the tailgate trim and they're quite expensive if you need a new one. Also, you'll need a gland to seal the hole if you do remove

thanks adam and bass sound, roll on MOT, if it fails, for that reason, is shall report back:)

im a mot tester dont worry about the washer and wiper not workin it wont fail a mot.

MOT's in Northern Ireland (still UK) are government run testing centres. ANY part present on a car MUST work as intended. Examples - spare wheel not a legal requirement but if its there it must have required legal tread. Same with the rear wiper/washer - if its there it has to work.
All centres have latest technology suspension vibrating plates, brake balance testers, plus the usual emission testing and all the other gear.
Also, our test is done annually from year 4, not year 3.
Much less 'give and take' than the GB garage system and not a bad thing imo
God help you if you are a taxi/minicab driver - your car has to be perfect!!!!!!
