Noisy suspension

Has anyone had a problem with noisy front suspension.
My near side front seems to thump a lot whilst going down our poorly surfaced roads as if a suspension bush has had it.
Whipped the wheel off and had a got look about and tried to feel any play but as would expect on a 21000 mile 30 month old car, all solid.
Anybody got any clues???

when you say near side does this mean passenger side?
If so mine does exactly same - a clunk at low speeds on slightest of potholes etc
Mines 23k and 31 months!
Getting up on dad's hydraulic lift at week end to check out.

I had a clunking, check play in steering with engine off, could be steering arms, gave same sort of sound as described.
