Noisy turbo

Hi,
I've recently bought a 2002 Ibiza 1.9tdi 130 with 50,000 miles, i have started to notice that when the turbo kicks in I don't get the normal turbo whistle (that I would expect from a turbo) but more like a growl. It doesn't seem to effect acceleration or mpg, so was just wondering if this is a normal turbo noise for a 130 or whether the turbo is faulty or has something causing a low resonance noise.
