Not giving up on Android Auto

Hi everyone.

Just bought a Seat Arona with an alleged factory installation mistake, which I wanted to discuss.

It's a 2024 Arona FR, which was supposed to have a 9,2 MIB3 with navigation and wireless android auto. I was explained that a mistake was made during production, and that a wrong device was installed, leaving the car without this piece of equipment. The first owner returned it to the dealer, enabling me to purchase it at a good price. My last car was also an Arona (not the FR) and it had Android Auto which I now miss.

I tried to activate it through the dealership, and they explained that my infotainment system is I8U, and that they can only unlock android auto on i8q.

The thing I have trouble understanding is that when I list the device part number in the menu, it says (in the car menu)

5FJ035869C

The mighty internet suggests that this is a part number of the "gps navigation system seat arona KJ7, KJP", Also in the My Seat app i can see the location of the car, suggesting it does have a gps.

When i opened the hidden menu, it says that the software version is 0480. When checking by VIN number it says that the part number is 5FJ035869D GVK but it doesn't look the same (there is a different button). The display is divided in three parts, bluetooth works fine. Seat Connect works fine, wifi hotspot works, although i don't have an option to connect to random wifi networks.

Could it be that the installed device is right, but the software isn't? Am I making any sense and does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank You all, I hope members from Sarajevo are welcome. :)

I have the same unit as you do. You should just connect your phone with an usb-c cable and press the full-link button and get Android auto.

Wouldn't mind using the cable version, but the problem in question is about the activation of Full Link, and determining whether it even existed in the infotainment itself. Thanks for the reply.

Could be a question for @East Yorkshire Retrofits whether this unit is upgradable via Vag hardware but the dealer doesn't want to do it or just lacking something basic.

One of those classic misbuilds where the car is made for different markets but the sales spec doesn't get worked up correctly into the build codes so you get something that you didn't order but is available in another market abroad. I have one of those. No wireless charger. Built without.

On a related subject I did read yesterday that some manufacturers were moving away supporting Android Auto. Close integration of the cars data and the infotainment unit is not achieved if people use adjoints to the cars inbuilt systems. You could be leading the pack 😉.

Thanks for the comment. I guess I was hoping to get exact info on the device installed in my car and if it supports Android auto. Jokke says his unit is the same and that he has Android auto, which makes me wonder what exactly is the reason for me not to.

So, can someone definitely confirm, does the unit 5FJ035869C support Android auto and what is the way to unlock it? Or not?

The unit should support AA, it could be as simple as you just need to enable it threw obdeleven or it could be more difficult that the "swap" isnt enable for Android auto.

In obdeleven control units, 5F, adaptations, function_configuration_connectivity
Mine looks like this.

Here is all the info from my unit. Start the car press and hold the car button for 10 seconds and you will find the menu. Then compare the active "swap" numbers, if yours is the same, then you should be able to enable AA with obdeleven.

This is why I was calling @East Yorkshire Retrofits on this but could be getting a bit tired of the question now. Vag changed the game with mib3 slamming the door shut on getting extra features that you hadn't paid for at the time of purchase. On this thread:

Some success was had on the early mib3 models with Obdeleven but East Yorkshire said this may not always be the case, it hasn't been. Now people are arriving where they can't get the coding solution to work using that thread. As I've said sometimes it's like buying a 4k tv but being sold one that gives you HD, no 4k license you only get HD since that's all you bought. It 's cheaper to make the infotainment units that do everything but only license the functionality they want to enable a cost points.

VAG has the key to enable that via license agreements. Retrofitter have those license agreements and if the unit can be enabled it's possible. Dealers don't touch these things.

All of the mib2 market and what was to become a free market to enable functionality that you didn't buy has been knocked on the head by encryption keys in mib3. Vag got better at locking out access to hardware that wasn't enabled at the time of purchase. Whether in your case the FeC / SWaP code being there is enough as per those images unsure. It becomes an experiment as per the Ateca thread I linked to. East Yorkshire Retrofit knew this at the time from their own experience working across Vag brands when that thread was put up, since the hardware fitted to VWs and Skodas didn't allow it. Seat might have got careless.... then got better at it.

Vag employs a company to chase down hobbyists why one suspects the mibsolution.one website is no more. They arranged for it closure previously. There are a number of cogs at work, fixing poorly designed units that allowed hobbyists and retrofitter to modify the units without paying the license fee, and going after websites that offered software outside the dealer network. Vag are happy if they get their license fee paid which is how legal retrofitters carryout the work, with Vag workshop equipment.

You might have success with Obdeleven or not.

Well in this case I think they just forgotten to activate AA. If he has the same swap codes activated as I do, in theory it would be just simple an obdeleven activation of AA.

Tho I dont think VW/seat cares that much about the software, they outsourced that part.

They outsourced that part to Cariad, who are owned by VWAG 👀

If the unit doesn't have AA/CP, it's unlikely to have the necessary licenses installed

For MEN3
00070D00 is Carplay
00070E00 is android auto
00070700 is wireless AA/CP

Please send us a message with your VIN

Oh, I thought that Cariad only worked on vwag´s version of android automotive thats in use in some audi´s and that Luxoft did the mib3 units.

I'd give you the name of the security company Audi use to hunt down the hobbyists... mibwiki via the hosting company had a desist email once.. then they hosted it in Russia....

Anyhow it will be good to determine whether it is just coding and those FeCs are there. Putting the FeCs there yourself is now off the table with Vag licenses. It comes up on cars sold without navigation FeCs in Turkey and the Middle East. The cars have the hardware but not the FeCs, specialists out there have enabled them using Vag equipment. In those locations they don't want AA but digital maps in the car which seem to be treated dimly but that's another story. Probably the maps are deemed not to reflect the countries borders so are banned.

I had no idea they were like that about their software. Here in sweden we take those kinda threats very lightly ;-) piratebay is culture here.

The LG unit of the MIB3 can be retrofitted, so AA and CP... as soon as my big projects are finally finished, I will buy an LG unit and test it.

Thank You all for the time and the replies. Sorry for my late response, it's been a busy day. I have attached a few images i took from my infotainment. As I understand (from your previous answers), the device supports cable android auto.

Also, once again, I would gladly pay for the activation in my local dealership, but because of the misbuild, they claim that the device doesn't support it and that i shouldn't waste my money on it.

@Jokke our devices seem to be different, I am missing the button on the left of the car button on your photo.
@Tell as I said, i am willing to pay, but the workaround seems to be my only option.
@East Yorkshire Retrofits Sending the VIN, thank You.
@cairus I hope my solution helps You too.

Yes, yours is the latest model, be happy for that. If you get Android auto working you get it in fullscreen.
But i belive there are no major diffrence.
Post a picture when you have AA :)
