Thats what I'm thinking. I rang them, they said its fine... will see.

These tsi's get soot on the exhaust anyway but I will :)

Seems to be quite common that SEAT are overfilling these motors with oil.

This isn't just a problem with the Ibiza, a main discussion topic is going over on the Brisky site.

Mines had a new engine in it, for anyone worried or unsure get your cars checked while still in warranty! I've got a copy of the invoice for mine and I wouldnt want to foot it.

Never knew you had a new engine Loz. When was that? Was it for oil munching? and finally, hows the new one going?

Take a look here buddy

Only got the car back about 2 weeks ago, engine already had the oil fix and it made no difference :(. Look back through bits and pieces I believe it had over 20 litres of oil in the 26k miles I've done!

Fingers crossed the new engine is going ok so far, still undecided whether to sell as I'm doing a lot of miles at the mo, a diesel would work out cheaper.

Mines use 5l in 12k so not excessive in seats eyes but my dealer is doing the consumption test for me anyway.

Done 6k in mines so far and I'm on my second litre, will be giving it a top up soon as I'm back down at the half way mark. I wouldn't say it's too bad, more of an pain in the arse but I can live with it.

Any idea if its an updated motor or an old CAVE unit?

Just checked my oil for the first time since getting my new engine - overfilled again!!!

I believe it's the latest edition (CTHE)

SEAT must have the remaining CAVE motors allocated to them as that's what they've just put in my Boc.
Time will tell if this one works although I'll have to wait until I've burned up the excess oil before it gets down to the max level before I can start monitoring it again. Happy days !!

Car went in for the engine to be closer looked at as seat have sent someone to look at my engine to see why its drinking alot..wait time...2 weeks :( these 2 weeks are gonna be looooong. Its starting to irritate me going back and forth now and if the problem continues after then i think it'll be time to look for a replacement which i dont want to at all as i love the car!

Well the car has been in for 2 weeks...dealers stripped down the engine and couldnt find anything wrong with it so they contacted Seat and followed their instructions on what to do, took photos for them and had to wait for them to get back to them. Got a phonecall today to say that the best option was to get a new engine in as instructed by Seat. They've ordered a new engine and will have it fitted in next week...hopefully around tuesday time that ill pick it up but i can see it getting picked up around thurs :( i just hope the new engine will solve it, if not then im gonna trade it in i reckon. Just cant be arsed going back and forth for the same problem. Bare in mind i had the new breather pipe put in so that did naff all!

Hows yours getting on?

Been there done all that and i agree its a real pain. Gave up eventually and traded it in..
Much happier now and problem free so far.... ;)

Update on my oil consumption test.

They Put Shell 5/30 Long Life oil in. First lot weighed 3040g and when it was retested it was 3038 (after approx 600miles) So used hardly any. Only thing i can think of is Ive had the airfilter off while it went in and never put it back on. plus with the weather the way its been its not been easy to give it some like usual. Could that be causing oil consumption?

Because it has used 5L in the 12000miles ive done(even that is over Seats Limits but still not great)

hmmmm. How many of you with consumption problems have had airfilter/induction kits on?

I have found the following things to increase oil consumption:

1. Gviving it the beans
2. 5w30 as opposed to 10w40

I noticed with an after market exhaust, it increased consumption. The turbo is designed to resist a certain amount of preassure each side of the bearing. When you add an intercooler, you decrease the amount of back preassure on the compression side of the turbo, the forge twin cooler and the harding performance keep the preassure about the same so it wont have an effect.

With the aftermarket exhaust theres less restriction so the bearing on the turbo is more likely to leave oil through to the ehaust. If it has a cat on it though that should give enough back preassure unless you have a huge exhaust. With a decat like mine, i have found oil consumption increasing since i had it.

One big factor is rain. I have found in rainy wet conditions then theres more oil consumption

Was thinking about the filter. If there is no restriction then its not going to suck as hard and considering the pcv system links from the block to the intake, your going to get as much sucking on those tubes. Ie less oil drawn in to intake. Im just peculating here though.

So an aftermarket filter should prevent as much oil consumption, in my case it seems to be the opposite effect, I was trying to get it to use oil but its sods law, may test it out an run my standard filter for a while, see how the oil goes.

Suppose it'd nice that its working fine anyway :)

My oil usage is very random. Used 1ltr in 6000 miles and then doesn't seem to use any then suddenly just uses it.

I check it about once a week at work during my lunch hour. (I would love a flat drive at home)

I have had problems with oil consumption from the start, when the car was new, with first and second engine. I put 5l of oil every 15 000 km. So I decided to change the oil, from Castrol Edge 5w/30 to Aral Super Tronic longlife III 5w/30.

I cant believe it, but for the first I didnt put any oil for 2000 km. I will see what will be in the future.
