Oil in Intercooler pipes > Turbo seal...?

Been doing a mod today on the LCR and had to remove the intercooler to throttle body pipe.

After i removed it i had a mega amount of oil in the pipe and on the floor and having a look in the outlet of the intercooler, it was saturated...

Now from previous experience from work (tractors) i thought it best to chase the oil back to the source...

I removed the pipe from the turbo to the primary intercooler and that had some in but not excessive amounts, more like a vapour covering instead of dripping wet.

Now what my mind is pondering is that this can only be coming from the turbo seals... am i right...?

The oil level is good and hasn't changed since the 70K service (on 74K now) and she's driving well (touch wood)

Is this something i best be looking into soon or leave until i see a drop in oil pressure / level

Thanks

Andy

You will have some oil in pipework but usually sits at lowest level, pipes connecting the two intercoolers.
When i changed my pipes the charge pipe to intercooler was dry probably due to heat and i didn't notice much in the MAP pipe to throttle body one either.
Undo one off the bottom pipes connecting the intercoolers see how much is sat in there
Does sound like a lot though

They tend to get a bit of oil in the system and sometimes have to be drained out if its collected over a period of time, unless it has excessive oil consumption or lots of blue smoke i would just clean it ou and not worry.

Cheers for the replies

I did a search and was getting a bit worried...

I'll keep and eye on it closely

Just fit an oil catch tank, if your still getting oil in the intercoolers and pipes after that, then worry.

if you remove the turbo outlet charge pipe and see oil then its turbo weaping.... if thats dry, then its breather system rebreathing the engines crankcase fumes.. if excessive oil level too high can be a cause (at some point), or engines breathing heavy (rings etc)

Oil in intercooler pipe......

I replaced the engine mounts on my 110 tdu today and there is oil in the hose between the egr vlave and the intercooler. Is this normal, or do I have anything to worry about?

Andy

relive an old thread.... im getting oil in charge pipe and pipe to throttle body, not massive amounts but noticeable... also have a catch tank fitted.

what would this mean?

I'm interested in this as well. I disconnected charge pipe to intercooler hose the other day and there was a small amount of oil but only a few drips which I wiped up with a bit of tissue. Is this something to worry about?

oil in intercooler pipe

replaced the cooling fans on the LCR, when i removed the lower pipe joining the two intercoolers i noticed there was some oil in there. ( not too much, but not sure if this is something to worry about ? the car has done 44'000 miles is allowed to warm up properly and wind down correctly. so fingers crossed it's not turbo related ! thanks.

Normal Oil , boost pipes

Im hoping its normal , but today i was scooting around the engine bay and noticed the samco coming off my turbo pipe had a little oil coming out , turn's out the clip had came a little lost , i removed it and there was allot of oil around the inside of the samco etc so i refitted it with a bigger jubleee clip ... is the oil normal?

thanks
