Hi Folks,

MY 02 Cupra had developed an oil leak on the passenger side just in under the front bumper. I have taken the plastic plate thingy off to have a look & it seems to be coming from a metal pipe going into what look like a second radiator. As you can tell I'm not all that technical when it comes to cars. any ideas what it is & how much I'm going to have to fork out. Or is it something I could do myself. I have included a photgraph to help out with the diagnostics !!

Thats an air con pipe mate. There is a rubber 'O' ring in the connection. You would have to get the A/C discharged of gas to split the connector and check the 'O' ring. If its leaking oil through there then the gas will be leaking also i would have thought. How cold is the A/C when its on?

Hiya,

I haven't noticed a drop in the Air Con performance, although haven't used it a lot lately. Is it a simple job for a garage or am I looking at something serious ?

Cheers,

Just had a call from the garage. Phil Gee you were spot on with the air conditioning unit. Apprently it's the compresser that's leaking although as far as they can tell no gas has leaked out & AC is working fine. So the reccomendation is to do put dye into the system & see if it's leaking anywhere else. If it stops working then have a look at it. Phil Gee you mentioned an o-ring or something. Is that something they can do ?

Cheers,

Yeah, there is an O ring on the connection in the pic above. They would have to de-gas the A/C system and undo the bolt securing that connection. Once the connector is off there is a little O ring on the connector. It wouldnt surprise me if you had to buy the whole pipe just to get the O ring! Not a big job at all mate. Maybe an hour tops to check the O ring.
Why do they think its the compressor thats leaking? That pipe in the pic is no-where near the compressor?
Phil .
