Oil Light + Cam Belt Change?

Hi all, 2 questions:

1) I was driving home today and the oil light came on (solid yellow, not flashing, not red). I stopped the car, checked the oil, realised it was a little low and topped it up from a reserve i keep in the boot. The light stayed on - the oil was still low as i didn't have much in reserve so went to the garage and bought another litre. I put about half in, dip stick measure is spot on where it should be - however the light still hasn't gone off?! Any ideas?

2) When should the cam belt be changed? And what else needs changing with it? I'm approaching 100K miles and I'm fairly sure it hasn't been done before. But i phoned SEAT and they said 120K miles - i didnt trust them so spoke to local independant garage and they also said 120K miles.

Cheers,

dealer is correct petrol engines are 120 k but no way i would let it go for that long on one belt 60k to be safe also water pump etc etc , yours will have a plastic water impeller on the pump to which are prone to go mine was f...ked at 70 k .. you should get it done asap mate well worth it for piece of mind ,, not sure about the oil light sorry

OK, just been out and started car up again - the light has stayed off! Which is good news. It obviously needed some time...

Hmm that light is for oil pressure if its come on its come on for more than a reason of low oil, obviously no oil= no oil pressure but if its come on whilst you were driving then id think some damage could have happened UNLESS the SWITCH is dodgy.if you like keeping your money especially with these engines i would get your car TOWED to a garage tell them what happened find out where the oil has gone and make sure the oil pressure is checked when cold and hot if it is safe to run..
Not trying to cast doom on your car just seen them go bang before due to low oil pressure caused by oil pump failure

and yes 120k but should be checked for it condition every service
