Oil light flashing

Since nobody seems to read the problems Q&A section i might aswell try here

new gearbox got fitted a couple of days ago.. all was well, drove to work yesterday morning and the oil light started flashing with 3 loud beeps, so i parked my car up at work and presumed the oil was low and topped it up... which didnt actually take very much.. so all was well again, drove home from work, no problems then went out again later and low and behold no warnings after 15 miles... an hour or so later travelling a short distance.. its back on again flashing and beeping constantly although this time the engines started to sound tappy like it would if it was running without any oil

so far the only things i can presume that could be the problem are

oil pressure (i.e. a block on the system or a leak, but there is no obvious leaks and the oil hasnt dropped after being left overnight)
oil pump (oils not circulating to the camhead/tappets etc)

other than that im stumped.. so looks like im going to have to put it into the VW/Audi garage and spend more money....

Check the pressure sensor is actually plugged in? If you've had the box off its not impossible it was unplugged. Looked at the top of the oil filter housing on the right hand side, small plug with a single thin wire.

would that being loose actually stop oil from reaching the top half of the engine to give it the noisy tappet effect?

VAGcom showed no errors in relation to any sensors.

well garage phoned saying they reckon the oil strainer is most likely blocked... but only time will tell...

there quoting £435 for an oil pump?!?!

is the 3 beeps not low brake fluid??? you checked it?

3 beeps is low coolant.

what that man said! check the coolant, if its level then try cleaning the prongs

ah but that would give the warning light beside coolant temprature

these 3 beeps are with a flashing red oil lamp

i had a new oil pump fitted last year for £150 so id shop around if i was you, that was due to a blocked strainer. i wouldnt be paying the kind of money youve been quoted.

also is the red light that beeps on the small while diall top left? as mine beeps and flashes due to a faulty coolant sensor need to change the coolant tank i think and they are about £15 last time i checked.

all warning lights include 3 beeps.

oil light, coolant light, brake fluid light

I had this, mine was just the coolant sensor though. Gave the prongs a bit of a clean up and it hasn't beeped since.

im sure yours wasnt doing that with a coolant sensor now was it

yea it was the oil light with the oil lamp symbol not the red light beside the water temp.

i have been quoted £85 for an oil pump from eurocarparts but would still need to get it fitted, if they say the pumps gone ill go buy the pump and drop it into them cos theres no way im paying 400+ for something just as good

its prob the oil pick up pipe aka strainer blocked causing low oil pressure,mine did the same a few months back £45 from the dealer easy to replace just messy!
