When i bought my car from SEAT it was due its 2nd year service so they did it as part of the deal. I asked what oil was used and the salesman brought out a tub of Quantum Synta Synthetic 10w/40 and claimed thats what they used.

As i needed to top the oil up recently i rang them up to confirm this was the oil to use and where i could get it from. They then told me it was Mobil 1 5w/30 that i should use a thats what they used.

As i couldn't get the Quantum locally i've topped up with Mobil 1 5w/30 fully synthetic. Will this be okay even if they did use the Quantum?

brake fluid change every 2 years. I will change mine more often than that as it gets driven like a cupra, not a prius.

2 different grades of oil wont harm your engine ;)

I questioned them about the brake fluid change as there was no tick in the box in my service book. Turned out they hadn't done it - clearly states its required 2 yearly.

I'm gonna get my oil/filter done every 6 months i reckon, pity i've got to use SEAT for the sake of the stamp though.

Tell them it needs doing then. Any reputable garage can service your car and change oil and filter etc... as long as they use genuine parts.

Ye i did do straight away, they claimed to have changed it when they did some warranty work on the exhaust.

Any ideas how much Seat charge for just an oil and filter change as opposed to full service?. Looking at the service book most of the service is simply inspecting stuff such as lights, tyres etc - can do that myself without paying them the time.

That's fine, you don't need to top up with the exact brand that they used on the oil change. As long as you use the correct viscosity and grade etc it will be fine.

As said every second year the brake fluid should be changed so check that they did it.

booked mine in for its 20k service for next week , they told me on the phone it includes a brake fluid change , so will be expensive.

i didnt think think semi synthetic and fully synthetic oil was a good idea?

How do you check if they've changed the brake fluid or not? It must be same colour as the stuff it replaced and doesn't exactly get dirty either.
They will probably want £100 odd for just oil and filter change.Go to an indie and get it done as long as they use genuine filter and proper oil.

after 2 years or 20,000 miles you should be able to see a slight difference in brake fluid , if it looks very clean then they have probably changed it.
you should also have it listed as an item on your service bill.

My Brake Fluid change was done around the cars 2nd year at around £40. The 2nd year service was carried out in December which is down the fact that I bought the car in December '07 and the car was registered March '07.

My car now has 17,000 miles on and I did notice a difference when they changed the brake fluid back in March:D:D

They also did the aircon check and it was fine and didn't need re-gassing.

Cheers
