I mis-shifted into 6th the other week when overtaking on a dual carriageway and after a minor panic, there didn't appear to be any problems and I stopped worrying.

If you beat the rev limiter say changing down and over revving on the petrol 1.8T it logs the over revving in the ECU with a code saying **warranty invalid engine over rev** or something similar

Diesels may be different

You should be fine mate, the rev limiter and red line on a diesel is more because they are completely useless power wise at those speeds to theres basically no point taking them there... Dissimilar to a petrol, where its there as a safeguard for the moving parts exceeding their rated speed.

Diesels will still be as balanced and durable to revs as a slow-ish petrol engine so you should be fine. There will probably be a fault code though, which you an remove within about 10secs!

Just chill out with the gear changes; faster changes barely speed you up day-to-day. Also the selectors, as a few people on here have proved, are not the cars strongest feature.

Damn you Ed, beaten me to a techy reply again :D

I didn't think the "max engine speed exceeded" fault could be cleared with vag-com though

Hehe sorry Muddy, we both seem to reply to threads in bursts, strangely during work time

Yeah you can clear it... I did it twice, once a 1.2 Petrol and a 1.9TDi 130, both after theyd just been into the stealers... Just log into the engine block and its there in big caps, it deletes just like any other codes.

IIRC J@MES had that over rev engine speed code come up after he did 160 in his LCR, it also came up with warranty invalid :) on it aswell, think he deleated it.
