Over revving

Hey people was hoping you could help. Got in my car
today and I have noticed that when I am accelerating and change gear it seems to over rev by bout 500-1000 revs. Does anyone know what this maybe?

There are probably a number of things it could be, if it's when you are changing gear, could it be the clutch is slipping a bit?

aup mate mine has just started to do this only when i give it a quick burst to say 4500 rpm then change gear it does it, and makes you look like a prat who cant drive, would be nice to know wots causing it as my mate seems to have this problem with his s3 aswell.

In the end it was the clutch pedal switch that solved the issue for me.

What happens in an LCR if you over rev it? Does it do like on games where the needle just bounces at the top of rev range or does it cut the power like my Ibiza did once when overtaking?

It's not the clutch slipping as it happens when the clutch is down and when I am sitting still out of gear. Well getting someone to have a look wit vagcom today to see if it comes up with anything

Forge 007p it's weird it was fine ealier yesterday then as I left the pub it started doin it. Why u ask what dv and bhp I am running

When i was at stage 2 when coming off the pedal it took a second or two for the revs to fall. They would increase slightly before dropping off. The stiffer yellow spring seemed to fix it.
If your problem is intermittant maybe your DV is sticking?

sounds like clutch pedal switch to me . they engine doesnt know the pedal is pressed down to drop the revs down as quick and over revs the car. try letting off the throttle then clutch change gear then off the clutch and it wont over rev, try doin it fast and it will over rev a few hundred RPM

common issue we see this all the time

few quid for a new switch and takes minutes to change

it'll be the clutch switch for definite. Mine does it because I haven't fitted the stopper on the clutch pedal since fixing the clutch pedal. It's ok at low revs but if you change up at 5000rpm or higher, you do see the revs climb by 500 - 1000rpm with the clutch depressed.

I would have thought there would be a rev limiter which will stop you from over revving the engine.

Check the clutch pedal, there should be a piece of grey plastic that clips onto it that activates the clutch switch, it will either be missing or the switch will be knackered. If the plastic is missing, it costs about £2 from dealers.

I have this problem a little too. I tried it with the cruise control. It didn't turn off until the clutch was about half way down. Is the switch adjustable or will a new one fix it? or will the new one just have the same problem?
