If any of you lot trying the universal cone filter on the normal LC are interested I've got a filter with the correct 70mm inlet thats only done 150 miles that I'd sell....only bought it while I was waiting for my apexi to be shipped over from Japan.

Who you bought the filter off? You going to run it open or enclosed?

Anyone have a K&N panel filter?

Pulled mine out yesterday and noticed it was full of dead bugs and all sorts. I have a cleaning kit in the garage. How much oil are you supposed to use, how long should you let it dry after washing and how long should you let it dry after oiling?

Think I left my old one for around 24 hours after oiling last time..

Noticed the car felt like it had better throttle response with the top of the airbox open so I don't think my filter is doing so well

I put a green cotton cone filter on my tdi and the power delivery was much smoother but the boost output on the gauge when peaking and when it leveled out was lower than the origional paper filter must have suffered from warm air in the engine bay.so now i have a piper cross panel filter and it now peaks bouncing off 2 bar.And pulls constanltly through the rev range.

I went for piper cross as its foam with less oil (if any) than a filter that uses gores.
hope this helps.

Pipercross and green are the favourites for panel filter replacements. I’ve yet to try smoothing out my airbox and drilling holes in it.

You could try getting a heat shield for the cone filter, but I have no idea where to buy it separately, of even if you can.

Even you had one of those, the cone is still not going to have too much space around it for it to breathe in enough “cold” air, unless your on a motorway, most of the air it’ll be sucking in will be warm, if not very warm. They do sound good though, but on mine, only when I pull away in 2nd or when I’m up high in the revs, which for me doesn’t happen that often.

I'd stick to an oiled cotton gauze panel filter for simplicity and performance. In fact Jetex filters (the same as those from Green except the colour) are a good price. I'd stay away from modifying the air box in general though.

When you say modifing the air box whats the extent of the work?

Read some of the recent threads on here. Involves chopping many little bits of plastic out of the airbox then sanding it down and optionally drilling holes in it and some have replaced the intake with something a bit bigger :)

I didn't go mad with mine but it has given a little bit more of a throaty noise.

I was wondering yesterday.. with people spending lots on decent induction kits, what is the life on them? Do they have to be replaced at a specific period? Do you service them/blow them out?
I know K&Ns can be cleaned and reoiled but I don't know about the Apexi and PiperCross types.
