Oh maaan I really don't know what to get a Refurb pd150 turbo or a 150 hybrid only £100 difference between the 2 from cr turbos

Well I can't afford the hybrid aha, looked into the one on the link i posted on page 1 but credit limit etc won't allow it, so going for a reconditioned Garrett unit when the garage call me back with a price from Turbo Solutions (I think that's who they use, but they don't list a pd150 turbo on their site :S)

Then in a month or 2 i'll get a stage 1 custom map just to beef it up a little, then uprate the clutch ( and maybe injectors, depending on what power I feel would be do-able) at some point and go hybrid.

If any1's had a stage 2 hybrid (i have) and now have a stock 150 the difference in the power is night and day! Hybrid 150 actually roars!

I did look at the complete packages from darkside (the budget kits including turbo, downpipe, mapping etc) and its an amazing deal...but i dont trust the car driving 3 hours to south yorkshire with a turbo that sounds like this on full boost..

in exactly the same boat mate, ive done about 400 miles on a knackered turbo as i need to risk it for work but ive retired it in my garage now, its next outing will be to get to darkside.

At least you're a fair bit closer than me, i need to risk it tomorrow to get to and from work but then i'm going on my mum's insuranceo n her Pug 306 for the rest of the month ntil payday then getting a local VAG specialist to do the turbo for me (only going for a standard recon unit).

Sounds like i have a police car in my engine until i hit full boost....then it sounds like an elephant with his balls getting munched on by an alligator

Although certainly you should not drive this car to Ryans shop, Darkside would be my first adress for any TDI related questions/inquiries in UK ;-)

Well as i've said so far, for now i'll be on stock recon turbo as money is tight.
In the future i'd love to take a trip up to Darkside and get a big turbo kit and mapping done.
But for now i'll probably do the turbo work, get a bit of money together and get a custom stage 1 remap for the time being.

If you can wait mate, speak to midlands turbos, I'm sending mine to them tomorrow or wed morning, chemical clean, genuine seals and bearings for £185+ vat or worse case new internals for £325+ vat. Like a 4 day turn around but they're trying to get mine back to me on Thursday or Friday latest so it can go back together with the new flywheel....

Appreciate the info mate but I think I'm just gonna go with a recon unit from turbo dynamics for something like 410 after I've returned my old one. The garage doing the work for me charge for the car being in the workshop per day so can't really afford for it to be there longer than the time it takes to fit a new one.
410ish plus 4 or 5 hours labour all in all isn't too bad I guess.

Can anyone recommend what else I should get for when I drop the car off after pay day? What gaskets, whether I should do oil lines etc?

I rang them today, and that 530 inc vat isn't including the 120 surcharge, it's 650 upfront then you get the 120 back IF your turbo fits their criteria.... So midlands is a potential saving of between 130-nearly 300, just saying lol

Is that including new oil feed pipe and new gaskets? Somewhere I read that the guarantee isn't valid unless you change that stubby metal oil feed or pick up pipe.... Don't know what website though

Really? On the bottom of some of their items it says that the surcharge will be credited back to the account that's used to pay once the old unit is sent back?

I spoke to them today dude, that's what they said.... So I said no lol. They nearly tempted me with a sage 2 but that'll mean I have to spend more money in the future and I really can't be bothered. Give then a ring
