Correct yes

but the new 2.0TDI 140 is out so I think thats what andy and myself would like to know! Have they just remapped the 140 engine to get the 170 without changing any other engine components?

Ahhh .. i seee...

Well from the seatcupra main site, it says:

It has been developed based on the 103 kW (140 hp) 2.0 TDI version. The new engine features a power output of 125 kW (170 hp), maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1800 rpm, and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with specific gear progression. The engine’s turbocompressor geometry has been improved and high-pressure injection has been added to the direct diesel injection system with the PPD Piezo-Pumpe-Düse piezo-electric injection system. It fully complies with Euro IV emission regulations, and is also equipped with the maintenance-free DPF diesel particulate filter system.

Just to answer your questins regarding the FMIC my Altea 140PD+ has a FMIC but you wouldn't know it from looking at it from the front as it is sandwiched between the aircon and engine radiators and can only be identified by following the IC pipes around the engine bay.

I can't see the FR being much different.

What Tam said, the 170 has piezo injectors for finer fuel control.

It's taking a long time to get to VW dealers, I was interested in test driving a PD170 in the Passat, Golf or Jetta. It was due February in the Passats, but has been "delayed", dealer doesn't know why.

newer 2L PDs use a newer type of ECU as well , ( EDC16 ?????)

EDIT , i have a sneeky suspicion that the 2L also has an EGT probe in the manifold too

I am no expert on the subject but this is how i understand it.
PD 140/170 both have the same 2.0L ( 1968cc ) engine controlled by EDC 16 ECU.
PD 140 does have a FMIC (on the Audi and Golf anyway ) sandwiched between the air con and the radiator. Quite a nice big FMIC actually but with smallish pipework but that can be enlarged without to much hassle.:D
The main physical difference is the use of PPD Piezo-Pumpe-Düse piezo-electric injection system which are different injectors again to the PD 140 which have different injectors to the 1.9 PD engines. The newer injectors get more power from the same amount of diesel by having a different spray pattern and even more control on the amount of diesel sprayed.
"The engine’s turbocompressor geometry has been improved" basically means they have altered the angle at which the turbo is set off the engine. The turbo is also at a different angle on the 2.0L PD140 to all the 1.9 PD engines which means all the hybrid turbo set ups for the 1.9 PD engine have to get a custom turbo manifold made to get the turbos to fit, plus all the oil feed lines etc have to be altered.
I have not found any information if the turbo is different but i doubt it myself.
If anyone knows and can prove i am wrong about any of the above information please feel free to prove me wrong as i already stated i am no expert.
Tuners are unlikely to have much if anything for the PD 170 ( other then maybe a remap in a few months ) since it is so new and tuners rely on having some dumb ass customer who don`t care about having a warranty on a £25,000 new car so that he can have more power.

Yes, they need the EGT probes because of the particulate filter which "regenerates" by burning all the soot in it through a combination of overfuelling and injecting a rhodium catalytic agent at intervals.

The EGT probe will monitor the manifold temp to ensure the overfuelling doesn't run away.

Thanks for the whole new thread but no!

"If the PD150 gets it extra 20bhp over the PD130 with bigger turbo and FMIC and the PD160 is the same as the PD150 with a map, is the PD170 the same as the PD140 with a map or is the turbo any bigger etc?

PD140 have FMIC?"
