Well after having it RR before and after I can officially say I gained 4 bhp yes 4! Also I gained 6lb of torque - I didn't expect much but that is 5% of the original. All in all a waste of money I feel at £300. I am thinking about getting it put back and spending my money on a cam or getting it de-catted! Anyone advise me please!

Don't expect big gains for fuel-injected cars (so-called driveability chips). Were there any figs quoted for the estimated improvement? That's why it's important to get it checked before/after.

You might find things improve more after everything settles down. I think it's more designed to remove any flat spots and make it more driveable, and improve fuel consumption.

A freeflow airfilter/exhaust would probably give similar results for less money.

Try a few tankfuls of Shell Optimax or whatever it's called now, or alternatively some octane booster, probably gain more than 4bhp!!

Yes, decent fuel helps! (Shell V-power now at 99RON replaced Optimax).

But then whoever fitted the chip should have advised on this.

Advisory figures quoted 10bhp and up to 10% more torque. Got it RR before and after and it seems that the torque graph has changed hugely! I have posted a before and after RR graph. The torque line is the top line that you can see.

Before

After

As you can see the torque has changed from peaking at 4000 to peaking at 5000 and then dying. Surely it is better holding peak torque for longer like it was before then after the remap.

Also chip installer told me to put in BP advanced/Optimax and this was in the car on the day of the run. I have 7 days to get a refund if I want one and am seriously considering it. Any ideas/suggestions?

your before graph is better - get a refund

think of it as 'area under the graph' - the more there is under the torque, the better - the more level the torque, the better

Just spoken to the installer and he said he will take this up with superchip. Glad somebody else thinks the same about the torque. I have a 'no quibble' guarantee till Tuesday so need to get it sorted by then. Just been offered some other options - de-cat for a 100 quid - lambda sensors could be a problem though? Get a cam installed and fitted for £325? Same price as re-map annoyingly. What do you think? Get a part-refund and spend on some other mods!

Worth putting it on the rolling road and getting graphs, or you would never have known!:)

Wonder how many more have been sold to unsuspecting owners.

Exactly - getting more and more annoyed by the minute! Sent a unhappy e-mail to superchip HQ and wait for response. I will see how much money and can get back from re-fund and spend it on something else like cam or de-cat!

The only thing is, if you start changing the cam, depending on the profile, you might have to get a remap done anyway to get the full benefit. It won't be an 'off the shelf' one either, and will probably end up costing you more!

And change to bigger injectors for the fuelling? I haven't been along this route before so wouldn't know what's involved.

Yes, you've lost your fairly flat torque (curve) between about 4 - 6000rpm. In this respect, I would probably say it's less driveable now! The torque is down pretty much all round. Peak power/torque might have improved, but not a lot else.

Pressure and air temp are just about the same, so you have similar conditions for the two runs. Definitely worth a refund I'd say. As a matter of interest did you get a good deal for two rolling road runs?

bhp is nothing without torque!

the honda civic coupe 1.6 vti (older model) is testament to this!
160bhp sounds good, with only 100 ft/lb's of torque not so good!

i'd wanted one for ages untill i test drove it:(

I really wouldn't bother with a £30 chip there is a reason they cost £300+
if your serous about tuning your engine you've got to know it swings and roundabouts, you chip a na engine with no other mods 4hp is about right as the chip is made not just for performance. if you change the cams (depending on profile) then your going to loose low down torque so if you never go above 4000rpm your car will more than likely feel slower. and if your changing cams you mite as well get the head flowed while your there as it will save you money in the long run, then exhaust manifold+ exhaust and sports cat and finish off the induction side of things. you could go on for hours with this!!
