Hi all! Looking for insight and guidance in a crucial descision

I am about to take delivery of a Cupra 280 next week Or possibly the week after that. The car in question was on order by the dealer already when I swiped it, however the deal isnt finalised yet and I'm getting cold feet over the now available Performance Pack... I want it, or to be honest I have to have it, at least I have to get the lighter wheels and the brembo 370 mm breaks, sure I'd take the side skirts and useless rear window "spoilers" but wheels and breaks are where it's at for me.

Now the dealer says that "sure, the wheels and front breaks will be possible to retrofit after ordering them as spare parts" however, since the Performance Pack is so new (only available since today in online config) they don't have spare part numbers yet so I can't get even a rough estimate of what 4 wheels and front breaks would cost...

Here is where anyone with previous experience of ordering wheels, brake kits, or other pieces of kit as spare parts can impart their wisdom... How does the pricing of parts usually compare to the price of the same stuff but from factory? I realise that this probably differs a lot but I'm desperate :) hey, maybe someone is sitting on inside info into this precise question... Likely? No. Impossible? No, well all but... :D

Now for the kicker, if I pass up on this Cupra and place an order of my own, with factory mounted Performance Pack, I can expect delivery... waiiit for it.... around christmas!!! For real, sooo... not really psyched about that

For everyones information, PP is available for online config in Sweden as of today, priced at 23900 SEK roughly £2200 + 5000 SEK / £450 for semi slicks.

Christmas, wow that's long wait.
PP doesn't appear on UK website yet.
Sorry can't answer your question

re simonali

hmm... ok.

problem is, i'll run the car as a company car (sort of) on a lease... so I can´t really be modding it heavily... that´s why I'd like it to be the proper "Seat parts" fitted at a Seat mechanic :)

I suppose the question is..... do you really need it? The standard brakes will do their job, so unless you are going to take the car regularly round a track, which I'm guessing you probably won't due it being a company lease car, you really won't need them for standard road driving.

Its alot of money for what is bigger brakes and different alloys which I'd have to agree with Rob aren't that attractive.

Mind made up :)

Thanks for your thoughts all!

Decided today to order a new one, was able to hijack an order the dealer had made a few weeks ago (saves me a week or two) :)

To answer some questions, and completely expose my ugly vanity :)

1. Personally I think that the PP wheel looks 3.14 times better than stock 19's + they are like 5 pounds lighter each
2. Honestly my main motive for PP breaks is that they look badass! :) plus I hate knowing that someone else with PP will potentially outbreak me in some highly hypothetical situation

Any way, thanks for your input everybody!

Each to their own but a good thread for a chuckle nonetheless!

Glad you managed to get a resolution that gives you what you want!

re scrich7

it gives me what I want, just slightly too late :)

I do agree that the PP 19's aren't the most beutiful rims out there, but they are better looking than stock 19's IMO and they are still Seat original which is easier to motivate than getting OZ Ultraleggeras from third party (which would have been my pick otherwise)

If anyone wants to help me feel better, please tell me I chose right going with manual gearbox :)

Now begins the long wait...

Did you try a DSG, I was like you till I tried one, the new 280 will be my 3rd DSG and I won't be buying a manual again. Quicker, cleaner, more MPG and never misses a gear, just lets me get on with driving faster just like Lewis H.:D

I bought a manual version too. I test drove the DSG and they are very good gearbox's and I was very very tempted but in my heart I just prefer driving a manual car!

Re seastormer

In fact my present car (mk6 Golf R) and my previous (mk5 GTI) have been with Dsg, but now I feel like I could use some variation... I'm just a bit afraid that I'll scorn myself every time I'm stuck in a traffic jam :) plus, my present Golf R has both Dsg and reverse camera... sooo parallell parking will be more of a chore in the Cupra

Yeh, I used to suffer from a dodgy left knee, with the heavy clutch and on and off it in slow traffic, that's all gone now, and I had forgot about that benefit. Getting old now you know.:p
