i have a N reg,1.8 16v GTI its done about 100k full survice. its costing me a bomb 2 run or is it me been tight??? get about 90-100 miles to £20 is that bad???

in the 60k miles i had mine for ,i don't think i ever looked into it. no point having a gti and driving like yer nan ;)

depends how you drive

my 16v does between 11mpg & 42mpg depending on how I drive.

that said - if you're using light throttle & low revs & still only getting those numbers there may be stuff you need to change

100 miles to £20 petrol is quite heavy fuel consumption. You're getting less than 200 miles on a 40+ litre tank which works out at 20 or less mpg. If that's your average then all your journeys must be less than 10 mins or crawling in traffic (or sitting on the red line).

i usually get about 270 miles out of a full tank, which is about £34 - £38 quid depending on what i put in, does your car have a turbo strapped onto the engine?

Ali

that's about 20mpg ?

depends on (as said)

HOW you drive it
WHERE you drive it
HOW LONG you drive it

as a comparison i got a 1.25 zetec fiesta runaround that basically does 15mins town driving to work and back and the odd trip to the chippy and that's getting 26mpg

looks like my beeza will still be using same tankful a month :p

lowest i ever got out of my mk 2 2.0 8v was 15.7mpg (late for work and 3am on an empty M18) and the best was around 45 (mother in car).didnt really care what it was doing just kept topping her up.

i have the same prob! ive had the cat changed and lamba sensor, along with the air flow mass meter behind the airbox and temp sensor but still havnt found out what the prob is! have you solved it yet cause im starting to think bout selling it cause its killing me!

it was my head gasket, just in the middle of changing engine ;)

gulp! - good luck. (I was gonna suggest air filter but I don't think it would that much difference)

If your doing short trips in this cold weather and nailing it your gonna get rubbish MPG, i found that with the temp 5degrees or less i find it hard to break 33mpg even driving like a saint. With a fresh service in the middle of the summer i got 48mpg crusing on the motor way for 200miles.
